Not downtown, but apparently Gizmo brewing filed for bankruptcy too.
Uh oh, do we need to stockpile Beekeeper?
It’s moving to Iron Works.
Union Special on Fayetteville St last day today.
They really gotta redevelop that 1-story building. NOTHING lasts there, and it’s the most low-density building possible on what should be the highest density street in downtown.
Everything about the way the Duke Energy building hits the sidewalks is godawful. No visibility inside, the big fenced in parking lot, it all seems to be at the peak of post-riots 70s frightened architecture.
It’s a nice enough modernist highrise above the ground floor, but oof is it bad from the street.
I’ve said it in this thread before. Union Special downtown did not adapt at all after COVID. You’d have giant events on Fayetteville Street all last summer and they were closed for every single one of them.
The intention of their business there was only to serve the 9-5 workers. Hopefully Bistro 401 (the group that is taking over that spot) serves that spot better. I happen think that it has a lot of potential.
That sounds like a pretty big fail on their part.
Sounds like the space won’t be empty for long. Their Instagram post said a new family-owned bistro will be moving into that location, Bistro 401.
Their downtown hours were M-F 8-3. Personally, I’m happy they’re gone. Sosta has the same hours and is the significantly better option for sandwiches. We need more restaurants in that area (especially Fayetteville Street) willing to keep their doors open for dinner.
i bought a green dinosaur for the first time years ago…it was pretty good.
I voiced my opinion to them when they first opened that I thought their hours weren’t very convenient and to not be open on the weekend, during festivals, just doesn’t make business sense. They were either going to succeed under their terms, or…
100% agreed. For the record, I’ve heard nothing but wonderful things about them and how they treat their employees. If I had to guess as to why they didn’t want to open on weekends, it’s because they wanted to run a tight-knit operation that was easy to predict and easy to run. That makes employees happy and ordering/shipment of supplies easy.
But, it’s still leaving money on the table. I really don’t think it would have been too much for them to just try for one festival weekend to see how things go and evaluate from there if it was worth it.
The new Dillon rooftop restaurant “La Terrazza” just posted this cryptic post on Twitter saying “We are so excited to welcome our sister restaurant, La Terrazza, to Raleigh’s dining scene…soon!”
Whatever that means

Post from sibling, Mulino…? Let’s see if this rooftop can mix 'em up right…?
So you will not be able to see the roof bar at l’hotel filet de poussin from here?? That is too bad, be cool if they did.
Well Mulino posted the message about La Terrazza.
They have a website with recent updates. Hope that means it’s coming along.
Not a great picture, poor crop and it’s crooked. Sorry, I can’t unsee it. It that was taken by their marketing/social person….
