I think this is a big part of it. Many people I know who have never lived in cities larger than Raleigh can’t parallel park or are afraid to even try. I realize this is anecdotal, but I also regularly see people struggling to parallel park around downtown.
I also think street parking in front of many shops and storefronts, especially Weaver Street Market, should be 30 minutes or less for quick trips and turnover, specifically for customers of those businesses. There’s no reason people should be parking in front of a grocery store for two hours.
As far as the decks, I think part of it is visibility. As humans, if we don’t see it in front of our face, it seems farther away or a burden in some way, even though it’s probably not as much as inconvenience as circling for 15 minutes trying to find a street spot.
North St has survived our DTR departure thank god. They’re actually doing quite well from my convo with ownership when we were in town last. Sorry bout New Anthem.
Wow super exciting! That didn’t take long. Hoping they use the same designer that designed Madre, so they can turn New Anthem into another beautiful space.
Probably because I can make a rum and coke at home. If I’m going to spend the money going out, I want something I can’t do myself. There’s plenty of cheap drinking places anyways.
It sounds to me like the transfer of the lease from New Anthem to Madre was in the background this whole time. If this was a landlord involved discussion, it could have possibly been a win/win/win for all parties. The LL keeps the space leased. New Anthem limits their liability/exposure, and Madre gets the bones of a new business venture that are already in place.
But if you can get past the cringey writing style, it sounds like this is going to be a pretty casual place. Likely still high quality since it’s the Madre team.
