Not looking good for New Anthem. Hearing they may be shutting down permanently soon.

Yeah I saw a few people mention on Reddit that all of New Anthem may being going bankrupt.

Seems I’ve run across several small brewers going under, from around the country, in the past couple months. Between pandemic, and drinkers moving towards more cocktails, it feels like there is going to be a real shake out in brewers.

I’ve never understood why breweries don’t also serve liquor, especially in NC when it’s not much more to get a liquor license on top of beer & wine.

Like I want to hangout at your space with my friends, but I absolutely hate beer. At least give me the option to buy something else, even tho it’s not what you specialize. I live at The Line, and would probably be a recurring customer if they had an option of mixed drinks too.

The door outside Transfer now has a “no minors permitted” sign, which is kind of a bummer… anyone know why?

For the music venue / Burial side or for the main food hall ?

I hate to bring more bad news but…
Clouds is closing or at least moving too. Hopefully they stay downtown.

Fluorish Market on W Martin announced they’re moving to RIW. Their announcement it sounds like the RIW leasing team has been working on them for a few years, and that their customers were whining about parking (even though there is a parking deck right around the corner).

I shopped there because it was in my walk shed, and it’s not really a place I’d purposely drive to. But I guess their target market is perfectly happy driving as long as there’s free parking. Too bad as it was a cute retail spot.

Interesting to me that people complain about no parking downtown but Iron Works and North Hills parking is also in parking decks. And I usually find street parking downtown.

The sign is for the main food hall

would assume it means unaccompanied minors/teens - you’re probably still fine to bring your kids there…although now that I say that I do love the idea of a social space in Raleigh that wasn’t overrun with families with kids

Yeah, unaccompanied. Just seems like a shame—I would have loved a place like Transfer to eat and hang with friends when I was in high school.

Agree, but I guess if there is any visible parking lot then they get the warm fuzzy feeling. Also guessing the parking will be “free.”

I’m impressed with all of the tenants they’ve gotten at Iron Works but it will be car dependent and it’s tight getting around in there with a car imho.

Man that’s a bummer. I liked that place. I blame @OakCityDylan for moving out of The Line and not going there anymore. He draws more people than an Apple Store!

Was having this convo the other day with a friend that it’s wild how you never seem to see one of these breweries go under with as many as there are. Charlotte is the same way. Maybe going the way of FroYo bubble of the 2010s

I think people who complain about parking downtown are just unwilling to walk more than 50 feet from their parking spot to their destination. There are tons of places to park downtown with plenty of capacity if you’re willing to walk a couple blocks (which isn’t even far).

It’s always interesting to me how quickly people are to complain about parking downtown when I routinely walk further to my destination outside of downtown. I have much better luck parking on the street near where I’m going downtown than parking right in front at Crabtree or Southpoint or similar retail destinations. I don’t know if people just don’t like street parking or if there isn’t an obvious deck they don’t know what to do?

This is just one of the effects of car-culture based planning and the lack of adequate public transit or active transportation infrastructure, compounded by the lack of dense housing.

I think this issue will subside once: Raleigh’s bike infrastructure is more expansive and safe; the buses are more frequent; and there is denser housing located downtown. All of these things are within our reach and once we meet those goals, businesses will move for the suburbs and quickly be replaced by another business.

Yeah that’s a really good point. I can go to target in Morrisville and walk further than I do going to like state of beer downtown.
