Red Hat building…

This is what fell off the one half of my sandwich I was able to eat. There’s easily 3 meals in here.

I hope they start offering smaller portions and lower prices, otherwise I don’t think they’ll be able to compete in the $10 lunch market in this area.

Man, I love a deli that piles on the meat.

Yeah, I’m the weirdo that does the mandatory “double meat” at any hoagie/sandwich shop I go.

Finally got to go to Jolie. It’s pretty much perfect. Decor, food, service, details, everything. Also, the speakeasy bar you need a key to get into is directly below. I didn’t have a key, so…

Here’s some food and some random girl…

This one doesn’t have multi colored hair?

LOL she does, most of it is hiding

And what drink are you drinking there?

Mine tasted like fresh cantaloupe and was delicious (I don’t really like cantaloupe), and hers was chartreuse with champagne and gin, I think.

Let me know if you want to get into Atlantic Lounge. :relaxed:

FWIW, not going to be downtown so maybe off topic but worth knowing.

Our third Project Xtra Crispy location announced is slated to be the first to open in early spring 2020 in the new Midtown East shopping center! This brand new shopping center is located on Wake Forest Road just inside the beltline.

I haven’t seen anything about this yet, but I found in this N&O article Historic buildings’ future in limbo thanks to budget stalemate about the Raleigh Sandwich Shop building being renovated. Anyone know anything about this project? I have been waiting years for this building to get some attention. I hope they’re able to do it how it should be done.

A few quotes:

John Holmes of Raleigh’s Hobby Properties said the tax credit expiration likely wouldn’t stop his renovation of the long-vacant Raleigh Sandwich Shop building on downtown’s Wilmington Street, but it could affect the design.

Holmes’ company is fixing up one of downtown’s last empty storefronts for a restaurant planning a “modern take” on the old sandwich shop that operated there from the 1930s through the ‘80s. Holmes said the tax credit allows him to replicate the building’s original look because he can afford “to spend money where we normally wouldn’t on architectural detailing and making sure we try to get it right.”

Likewise. The Raleigh Sandwich Shop closed before I moved to NC. But, when I read the story about it on Goodnight Raleigh, I was more intrigued and hopeful about its chances of coming back somehow.

A little shout out from my church, First Baptist on Salisbury Street…

Friends, we’ve got a BIG ANNOUNCEMENT for your Friday!

We’re opening a BBQ food truck in our church parking lot. Yep, you read that correctly. This give-back food truck will be open for lunch Monday-Friday, 11-2pm in the First Baptist Church parking lot located on the corner of Edenton & McDowell Street, in the heart of downtown Raleigh. We’ll have award-winning pit-master, David With, at the smoker 5 days a week cooking up a menu that includes: pulled pork, brisket, smoked chicken wings, smoked turkey, and all the southern sides.

The absolute best part of this whole thing? With every meal you buy, you’re helping feed someone right here in our local community. We’re starting with our downtown neighbors that gather in our Clothing Ministry every single Thursday. When you buy lunch, you’re providing a meal for someone else - it’s really that simple. Feed yourself, while feeding your neighbor.

Do you know a local non-profit that might let us pull this BBQ truck in their parking lot? We’re looking for a few more community partners for our Tuesday afternoons (after 2:30pm) that would let us be stationed in their parking lot for about an hour, and share a meal for free. For us, this time spent with community partners is not just about serving free BBQ. Our hope is that this truck emblazoned with a stained glass pig helps spread hope through cultivating meaningful relationships with our neighbors while building community in the process. We’ll bring the volunteers, free BBQ, and a picnic table, we just need some parking spaces and people to feed.

Upcoming Events:
October 20 - Church Lunch & Blessing of the Food Truck
October 21-25 - Soft Opening Week! Come eat with us while we work the kinks out!
October 28 - Grand Opening Celebration, 11-2pm

Finally that space will be utilized, it’s basically been complete a few months now. This Mexican-Japanese fusion, then the Italian-Japanese fusion at Seaboard station Papa Shogun. I’m really enjoying the creative cooking chefs we have downtown.

He said it would not be Mexican or Japanese or even a fusion. Likely modern haute cuisine with a wood fire twist.

I heard about the new restaurant this weekend, and I assumed Katsuji Tanabe was just dropping in to open it. Very cool that he is actually moving here full time. I hope he likes the city and that his first restaurant here is good and is successful.

It feels like the food scene is getting some critical mass. Hope it keeps growing!
