General Retail/Restaurant News

Nice! I didn’t know they were opening a shop here. The one in Wrightsville is great.

Yeah, I’m all in on more brunch places!

Popped my head in this AM on the way back from Y and asked them if they were officially open. They said yes.

Planning to walk over there tomorrow from my house. Drift plus taco bamba and soon jersey mikes have been great additions to this shopping center. Hoping for a few more of the empty retail spaces to get filled soon.

I’m still hoping the whole foods expands into the empty space next to it, and they finally remodel the exterior to match the rest of the shopping center.

Char-Grill isn’t open as late. It’s great though–big fan. Wish Durham still had one. :crying_cat_face:

Update: Took my daughter to Press this morning. Really nice upscale space. Food was good. Prices were pretty standard for Raleigh (basic Crepe $10, fancy Crepe $15). With First Watch a block away, I think that (and Watkins) will continue to be my go-to with kids, but I’ll be back.

Basic Nutella Crepe, side of bacon, side of eggs, juice = $21 before tip

I went to Press for lunch today and the place was packed. The overall package (food, location, design, vibe) is way above most restaurants in downtown Raleigh at the moment. I hope Birdie’s at the Wells Fargo tower and Sir Walter restaurant on Faye Street have the same level of restaurant-manship that a lot of places in Raleigh sorely lack.

$24 of a turkey crepe and latte and tip.

Thanks for the feedback! Do you guys know if it’s possible to park in the tower or if it’s street parking/public decks?

I saw on Instagram that Anthony’s LaPiazza commented on a post that they were going through final inspections and hope to be open very soon. Their comment was (3) weeks old. They’re located a part of The Wilard hotel.

I honestly don’t remember this opening. Although I’m sure it was discussed on here, I didn’t internalize it apparently.

This is sad, it was really good when I went, but no one else was there.

It’s a bit of a tough location with both poor bike/pedestrian access and poor parking, and it’s tucked away. It also looked very expensive.

Layered seems to be surviving there. Anecdotally, we’ve gone to Layered a few times this year and didn’t even realize there was something next to it.

You know, now that you mention it—I’ve started noticing a huge trend around here lately of restaurants opening, doing hardly any advertising and expecting that word of mouth is all they need. Then they’re suddenly surprised they’re closing and then we, the public are going “Wow, I never even heard of that place.”
It’s like the best way to get coverage for a restaurant in Raleigh these days is to Close. :man_facepalming:

Someone should try it. Open, wait a month, then reach out to press to announce closing. “Raleigh restaurant closes after only one month” is too tempting of a headline for many publications to resist. Maybe mention safety too.

Then just don’t close.

Sorta like a permanent “Going out of Sale” banner?

I wonder if Capital Club is doing a form of this. I thought I went on their last day of service but sometimes when walking by, I see it has people in there eating.

I thought the thing to do was announce on Instagram that you’re opening someday soon, then get all the parasite recycled gossip accounts to repost your posts, then have a special influencer event, and then a soft opening with more influencers, and then never open. Flour and Barrel has been doing this for like a month. I have no idea if it’ll be good, but man am I gonna feel cool when I eventually get to go.
