Bryan worked at my church for a long time! They’re good people, hope this succeeds!
And yeah one hopes they’ll end up with a couple more tables in there.

Oh thank God. My prayers have been answered!!
Was able to get a quick tour of Le Dive last night - the new divebar concept from the folks at Neptunes, which will be taking over the former Garland (and briefly Umbrella) space upstairs. The decor is coming along, and will be a mishmash of random weird sh!t, including a mounted taxidermy deer that will be decked out in punk attire (nice), a disco ball right above the entrance, and framed posters of legendary past Kings/Neptunes shows and Hopscotch lineups. There’s also going to be pinball (they’re hoping for 2 tables).
The plan is “stoner food” and drinks. Think: burgers, wings, fries, etc - and they will plan to keep the interior seating open till midnight most days, and then when the doors close for the indoor seating, the walk-up window will takeover for a late nite limited menu of to-go food and to-go drinks (social district baybeee). They did surprise window service on NYE and were quite successful, and plan to start doing pop-ups within the next few weeks, with a proper grand opening soon after. Stay tuned! This will be an awesome spot to grab a bite before/after shows or to grab drinks when Kings/Neps has a cover and you just want a beer.
late night food! late night food!
The stoner food item he told me will be on the menu that I’m most excited about is something I don’t even want to share until they open because A: I don’t want to be responsible for anyone else taking their idea, and B: I might end up being the only person here who will absolutely be eating this monstrosity.
That sounds cool, and I don’t want to be a negative nelly, but I feel like a dive bar is not something you create from scratch, but more something that happens naturally over time and at heart is based on cheap booze. Just my $.02.
Neptunes and Kings have enough history that I am willing to give them the mantra of dive bar in the new space if they want it.
Well, sure, hence why I called it their new divebar “concept” - just think of it as a themed bar, and the theme is weirdo-punk dive bar lol
That said, I don’t think you’ll find any alcoholic beverage in this city nor anywhere for THAT cheap
I definitely like the theme!
Themed Dive bar. Sounds Like a dive bar with bougie prices. Why not just go to a real dive bar?
Homie… I’m the one saying to look at it like a “dive bar themed bar” - it’s not. It’s just a bar called Le Dive that will have cool weirdo decor and a punk rock vibe. If you don’t consider Neptunes to be “bougie prices” (they aren’t) then this won’t be either lmao.
But sure, you can go to The Bison or any other actual sh!tty dive bars all you want!
meh - Homie. My bar hopping days are behind me. I don’t really care. Was just making a smart-ass comment.
Next thing you know, you’ll be moving to Chatham County
The new Standard beer/food place apparently is a standalone building. Currently going up in North Hills.
Woah I didn’t know they were expanding. Good for them.
I secretly hope some of the normal crowd is driving in from north Raleigh and will go here instead so we can get a table.
Their freezer is down.
I’m sure that they will because there’s likely to be easier parking.
I hope this is allowed.
Neighborhood restaurant, bar, and market location at the corner of Glascock and Brookside is available. Although several businesses has come and gone in the space, it is still a prime location for attracting the couple of thousand local residents that within walking and short driving distance. At one point, it was the Brookside Bodega and attracted a good local crowd, plus made money from selling a wide variety a craft beers in the coolers. They also attracted the family crowd by selling ice cream and candy while selling food and drinks to the parents. Plus they provided games for the kids and chalk for them to use draw on the outside patio pavement and wall. It’s 2 blocks away from Emma Conn Elementary School.
I am trying to get the word out about this space because I live near it and it is bad for the neighborhood for it to be vacant. According to the signs in the windows, DePersia & Associates at 919-460-0100 is handling the space, but the development is owned by David Meeker and his partners. www.rdubrokers.com is the website on the sign.
It isn’t a good place for a destination restaurant. That’s why the last restaurant failed. There’s really not enough parking for that kind of place, and it doesn’t help the neighborhood build community.
Please pass the word along to budding restaurant owners that understand how to attract a neighborhood crowd. The neighborhood will support them. They can reach out to me for more details about the space.
I believe a group of Mordecai neighbors came together to buy the strip mall that is now housing Standard, Wine Authroities, Two Roosters, Yellow Dog and Person St bar. They initially formed a community co-op of sorts, and then curated the businesses that went into it.
If anyone in the immediate area wants to form something like that and has experience in the restuarant/bar world, let me know. I’m interested in being a part of it. This space could absolutely kill it if it just focuses on being a neighborhood bar/grill.
Cater to kids. Show local games. Focus on volume. Instead of being a destination people come to once every two months, be the local spot people come to twice a week. Cheaper food and drink, smart reward system or mug club that encourages people make it their local hang.
Capitalize on the 3:45 rush of parents that picks up their kids at Conn. Because of the set up of the Conn Elementary carpool, there are many walkers and many who park in close by neighborhoods and walk up. These people used to take their kids to Brookside for a drink to socialize while the kids played don’t he patio and many just stayed for an early dinner.
Now this same group hangs at the creek across the street. They’d love to have Brookside back. But drinks specials or certain rewards to encourage that (instead of trying to usher that out like the latest place did). That is usually a dead time for most restaurants, but could be activated at this location.
Run Clubs here would be perfect as you can take off right into the neighborhoods. Use those to bring people in during dead nights.
Have an elite takeout situation, as you are surrounded by neighborhoods filled with families who are busy and may like to grab something local.
Turn that big black wood wall into a glass garage door/outdoor bar so people can really hang on the patio instead of having to go in and out over and over. Also, use the QR system that Standard uses (I think Brookside Bodega was doing that)
I have tons of ideas, used to be a semi-regular at Brookside Market and have kids at Conn.
I’d never want to get into the restaurant/bar game, but this place is such a homerun that if a co-op forms to do something like this, I’d love to be a part of it.
That’s a great idea. Wish I had the expertise to make that location a co-op. Maybe I’ll post something on the local Nextdoor and see if anybody responds.
