to be fair, that entire area of Wake Forest Rd, from the current Mami Nora’s location all the way up to 440, is basically Death Valley.
It’s just an awful place congested with a hodge podge of shitty car dealers, random retail, Costco, the Wegman’s which people here lose their mind over, like it’s the Nordstrom of grocery stores, and some motels.
That whole area along Wake Forest Rd could be demolished and start over again for all I care.
A lot of that area is a flood zone, so building types are limited. I did designs for the the Sherwin Williams across the street and it was pricey, compared to a standard, non-bathtub, design.
Hey man, Wegman’s is more convenient from my house than Publix or Harris Teeter, their ciabatta sub bread is fantastic, and Torchy’s is also in that shopping center. All good reasons to lose one’s mind.
The menu is full on southern Italian. Everything I’ve had has been good from veal parmesan to chicken masala to pastas and salads. Anthony is a nice guy who has a big presence there and is working hard to make it a success.
Attempted to go here today, but mistakenly didn’t realize they were closed today. I know it’s coming at some point, but this intersection desperately needs some work. A near death wish trying to walk over to get coffee.
It’s just the two owners running it now. They mentioned to us that as soon as they are able to find the right people, they’ll plan to do weekends and expand hours. At least that’s how I understood it.
Are they staying open in their current location until then? I tried to go there over Christmas (not on Christmas or Christmas Eve), and they were closed.
