General Retail/Restaurant News

What a great location! There aren’t a many (any?) nice restaurants in Raleigh with that kind of view. Looking forward to checking it out when it opens.

I just consolidated it here.

Very happy this went to local heroes and not a big chain!!!

IMO it’s literally the best group that could have taken over this spot!

….except it will be impossible to experience. Go ahead and make your party of 4 reservation for March of 2022

LOL true. However, that is a massive space.

From the sound of things this was on purpose regardless of them not being the highest bidder. I wish other developers and leasing agents had this type of local pride.
“Instead of the space going to the highest bidder, the partners said they were eager to put a homegrown project in possibly the most prominent vacant restaurant space in the city.“What is exciting about this moment is instead of this project going to a national chain, or private events space, this beautiful large space is named for a small town and run by friends who live here,””

The all-star restaurant list continues to grow, it’s awesome!

The “Flying Mayan” (can’t make this up) is apparently opening in the short lived Wahburger space. Just walked by a short while ago. Mexican food is the fare…less the sacrifices to the gods I’m assuming.

The building is at least from 1872 and likely antebellum.

The Warehouse District has seen a 63.3% YOY growth in food & bev sales so far in 2019. https://indyweek.com/news/wake/downtown-raleigh/

A bevy of new restaurants and Weaver Street are to thank for that.

Almost all this growth is tied to a single project: The Dillon.

Seems obvious that people will seek out anything from Brewery Bhavana crew, but it takes a particular caliber of business to make a destination restaurant work. Any random restaurant probably wouldn’t work or last long. No random foot traffic and street activity for people to preview the experience. And parking in a garage and riding an elevator is just enough friction to discourage some people. Other rooftop restaurants here thrive on their happy hour/nightlife scene. Raleigh isn’t known for its views, to say the least.

Clearly MSFH isn’t aligned with Indy’s brand. Perhaps the largest contributor to food sales in the Warehouse District, MSFH gets completely passed over in the article, while Weaver Street (which literally just opened), gets mentioned. Even more egregious, Luang Prabang, gets a nod and it’s not even open yet.

I think any decent concept would do great 130 feet above the city, considering we’ve been starved of a good rooftop destination. Being the highest open air restaurant with panoramic views and sunsets is enough to stay packed I think. Look at Boylan Bridge/Wye Hill. Parking is definitely not convenient there.

I welcome their effort to test out how viable a restaurant concept in this space will be. Definitely happy it’s some local folks doing it, rather than getting some small chain instead.

Appears as if Taz’s in Skyhouse has closed. Good effort but it never had the things I needed. Just a nicer version of what’s on Wilmington St.

DGX probably killed them.

The Wahlburgers spot on Fayettville.

I don’t understand why this is displaying sideways. It’s proper orientation on my phone.

Assuming they nail the quality from the original ILM business model - that should be the end of that location being a dead spot…

Also, saw a sign in the window at One Glenwood next to D2 for a place called Zambrero, Mexican restaurant.
