I didn’t know Escazu left - did they move, or just close?

We tried to go to Mazahua earlier this week and they had a sign out front saying that they are doing renovations, under new management. I was very intrigued by that place so will make an effort to go back.

Coming soon to Dupont Circle. They were doing inside work this morning with heavy equipment.

I keep getting ads for them on Instagram. Not sure what that says about me.

No pics or anything but just noting two restaurants I don’t remember being discussed here:

  • Amrut is open in the old Budacai space. Indian food, apparently with some twists (Paneer tacos??)
  • Nashville Hot Chicken going in by Wegmans where the old fried chicken spot closed. Welcome addition imo, we usually grab dinner before groceries and there’s just two restaurants in this plaza now.

I put the Dave’s pic in the lifestyle centers thread since there’s no Midtown thread. This is also a fitting spot though. I’m pumped for Dave’s too

Another new restaurant - this one coming to Bloc[83] and called 83 SOUTH (yes, all caps). Located across from Incendiary.

A bona fide day-to-night destination, the hot spot will feature lunch, a vibey DJ weekend brunch, and an upscale dinner menu dishing American-inspired small plates—plus craft cocktails, beer and wine. Come 10:30/11pm, tables and chairs will give way to a sophisticated adults-centric lit (literally) nightclub till 2am.

More from Raleigh Magazine.

Leo - report back on how it is. I really enjoyed it, and hope the management change doesn’t impact things. Would hate to see this place become another generic Mexican restaurant, and curious to know what you think

@dtraleigh there used to be, but someone keeps changing it back to say lifestyle center. Whatever the heck that means…

I was excited when I saw a restaurant going into bloc 83, but as I kept reading, it’s not my favorite plan. Who wants a loud DJ during brunch?? And why the hell is everything vibey? Wtf does that even mean? And it’s gonna be another drunk club place to extend the party past Glenwood. I guess that’s good for connectivity, but was really hoping for something a little better after all this time.

I mean, what’s more appealing than this entreé word-salad ?

‘… Setting the stage of a thought-provoking, grown and sexy atmosphere, with varying spaces upping the cool factor. 83 SOUTH hopes to bring an elevated environment and atmosphere—the likes of which Raleigh has been craving, where burgeoning ideas can manifest, grow and build. Fitting for the new kid on the “bloc…’

Genuinely baffled by these kinda descriptions. Is their target audience real, living human beings? Because if so, these are so off the mark.

Seems Stanbury stays the same with old the Escazu spot becoming a new ‘sibling’ w/ drinks / food under same chef / owner crew…

Lol. What is that description. Excited to see something finally go in there (I love Incendiary and that entire stretch now up towards Irregardless), but that description is about as generic/word salad-y as the proposed name.

Oof, I work on this block now and was at first excited for a new lunch option, but idk what to make of that description. Doesn’t inspire confidence in the actual food for me.

On the other hand this will kill it for office parties and the like, maybe that’s the idea.

I THINK it’s describing it as a multi-room experience where each separate space is decorated/themed a different way… at least, that’s how I interpret that.. mess of a description. It both says so many things yet doesn’t actually say anything whatsoever lol - so I’m most definitely making a massive assumption from what I THINK it’s trying to describe.

I think whoever wrote the description (whether that’s Raleigh Mag or the owners) was either: (1) leaning way too hard into making it sound interesting in every possible way, which came off clichéd and cringe, or (2) using ChatGPT, which in turn is pulling from very clichéd and cringey precedents.

Sorry if already posted, but La Mala is now open in the old Clouds Brewery space. They have a nice large patio. Haven’t been to this one yet, but the Durham one is a good spot.

I went last night. Good drinks and the food is basically a pared down La Santa. The space is nice and the patio will be great when it cools down some.
