I’d imagine that when the lights are dimmed, the ceiling is going to look a lot darker.

Yeah it looks nice and I’m excited to check it out. But I agree about the ceiling. I miss the days when new spaces had actual ceilings and not just “rustic industrial” (lazy) pipes and insulation. It works for some themes but not for others. Not a big deal, though, and not something I’d notice unless I drank too much and wound up lying on the floor looking up.

Drywalling the ceiling would have encroached on the little amount of headroom the space already has, it wasn’t necessarily a design consideration. The ceiling would have started immediately after the wood panel walls. Interesting fact, lots of the prep work and cooler space for Beasley’s is actually behind these walls, underneath the restaurant upstairs.

I didn’t know chickens had fingers. GMOs are really getting out of hand.

That’s completely fair for this space, actually. My gripe was more with all the generic ground floor retail spots in new buildings that have high ceilings but don’t bother to do anything with them. Regardless, this place looks cool and I’m happy they’re opening.

Not putting a drop ceiling in a space isn’t the cop out that one might presume it is. When you leave a ceiling open, you have to better coordinate everything that folks will see when they look up. Pop open a lot of ceiling tiles in a standard ceiling elsewhere and you often find a mess above it.

Leaving a ceiling plenum open is often intentional from a design perspective as well and offers the opportunity to drop “cloud ceilings” in the space that brings design interest while acting to further define the space with varying levels of intimacy.

Bahama Breeze is closing in 2 months. Wonder if they’ll try to build something a little more upscale for that spot knowing that North Hills is spreading down there.

who knew that they were still open?

You would’ve if only you walked a little further past Costco :joy:

I wouldn’t walk WF Road under 440 unless my life depended on it, even though it is more likely to take my life.

Darden owns the property. Either they convert it to another Darden restaurant, or they sell it, or it sits there and becomes an eyesore. Darden owns Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Eddie V’s Prime Seafood, Capital Grille, Olive Garden, LongHorn, Seasons 52, Yard House, Cheddar’s, and Chuy’s. Of course, some of those are in north Raleigh already.

It’s on the list of closures, not conversions, according to the press release.

I dunno how upscale that block will ever be with Denny’s nextdoor and that infamous Days Inn also. But I agree, hopefully something better comes in.

I once rode my bike under there to get to the Crabtree Creek trail from my house. Wasn’t as bad as I feared as at least there are timed crosswalks, but I wouldn’t do it again, if only because I had to ride over tons of broken glass going through there.

Is it only a matter of time until the Denny’s tract and the Days Inn tract are redeveloped, along with most everything else on Navaho? The Darden tract is more constrained because the adjacent Hilton and 1105 ex-Hyatt building probably aren’t going anywhere.

To be fair, that Hilton has long since lived past its prime. It could come down and be replaced by an updated version.

Is there a reason that Hilton has seemed to always really under invest in Raleigh. When I traveled for work you could find mainline Hiltons in the center city of places much smaller than Raleigh. We have only recently gotten some of their other brands downtown and they keep this crappy building as the only Hilton in the city.

Bar Marigold is now open in Jubala downtown (301 Hillsborough)! Tasty cocktails and food. Grand opening Friday evening.

The run down apartments further back are next demo. Once that goes then the rest meet the excavator.

The Hilton on Wake Forest Road changed hands in 2023. Couldn’t find any reference to the intentions of the new owners. Hilton has never been as good at policing its franchisees as Marriott.
