General Retail/Restaurant News

Would this be the first residential building built in downtown without parking? I can think of a couple along Hillsborough St but is that really it for Raleigh for residential without parking?

Skyhouse does not have parking that is integrated into the building.

Parking is unbundled from the rent and is available in the nearby City deck at a discounted rate on a per space basis.

EDIT: The Edison has the same setup utilizing the same deck.

To me those buildings are built with that parking in mind. I’m thinking the Hudson might be a closer example of a parkingless residential building - but I guess it was a renovation and not purposely built that way.

Surely the residential component of this project will offer unbundled parking spaces within the adjoining Moore Square deck.

[Edited to substitute Moore Square deck for Blount Street deck]

The Hudson has parking underground and integrated in the building. I think it is bundled at 1space/unit

There is so many parking decks in downtown Raleigh, differentiating between integrated and nearby is likely low on a resident’s considerations when the pick an urban location.

A lot of suburban garden product has 300+ feet of walking from the apartment to a parking space assuming one is available nearby the unit. Most urban parking decks are within 500’ of a building in downtown for the non-occasional use (unless you’re @GucciLittlePig)

Also a far away spot at Costco is over 500’ just to reach the building entrance

FWIW, I always approach Costco from behind the store and park in the very first spot I can find. It’s usually up against Industrial Drive. I can’t stand being in the middle of that melee out front! ….and no, I haven’t yet walked to Costco.

I always approach Costco with anger and pre-emptive impatience for slow idiots before I even step foot in the building.

I hated going to Costco b/c all the rude people and the insanity in the parking lot. So we just let our membership lapse and haven’t missed it all. :stuck_out_tongue:

Then I can promise you that you don’t want to go to Costco in Miami!

Costco is my favorite store by far, but the absolute worst part of the Costco experience has to be the parking lot experience & the abundance of rude/entitled people. You get used to it after awhile, and for me the products there make up for it, but it’s still annoying so I definitely get it.

Few days late on this, but I am a huge fan that something finally went into this space that will have some genuine staying power here. I like that they kept some of the fun interior design elements and the marquee.

However, I’d been hoping for years that this would turn into a sports bar like Sammy’s or the bar portion of Amedeo’s. Great that Raising Canes is here, but still a missed opportunity IMO. Such a cool, unique space that is right in the middle of the street and would partially fill some of the void left by East Village’s closure in 2020. Still holding out hope for the old Two Guys pit turning into something at least - 10+ years after that building was taken down.

I park at the very end of the Costco lot and take the hike. And since I mostly drive a Tesla, I carefully avoid getting blocked by the gas pump queues.

Don’t go to Costco as often as when our then-teenage sons consumed a gallon of milk a day, or so it seemed. But Costco is still an important supplier for us.

FWIW, milk is cheaper at Aldi and Lidl.

Capital Apartments has no parking, it was built in 1917 though so kind of an outlier haha

Would I be starting an uproar for wanting to rename this thread to “Boycott Costco Thread“ for how horribly car-dependent it is?

Frankly, I’m just shocked that Costco put their first Wake County store ITB.

Good to know, although neither Aldi nor Lidl was in Raleigh back then. We do buy some items at a nearby Aldi now.
