Carroll’s Kitchen recently moved to a bigger nicer space downtown. Go check them out! I’d recommend a kolache.
Nice to see some investment in this location. This is a nice sunny space!
really excited for this if executed properly. There is an entertainment gap in raleigh for weekend afternoon live music and hope they focus on that
I feel like a Darryl’s would do well here. ![]()
I loved Darryl’s when I was at State.
Absolutely, and not just because I worked there for about 3 years. The circus room was kind of epic back in the days of 18 yro drinking age, lol
Oh, I remember that!
I like the idea. I just wish it had a different name…
Yeah, “coming soon” sounds like a sex club. ![]()
Lmao gold…
What is the actual name? I don’t feel like the post really said which seems like a miss for some free advertising
can’t quite put my finger on it but something tells me it will be called “the artist lounge raleigh”
The Artist Lounge. It’s too on the nose… I know this is kinda snobby, but in my experience artists tend to congregate in places that sound a little more quirky and a little less “I’m trying really hard to be a place for hip creatives.” It’d be a lot more effective if they created the vibe to form a creative hub organically instead of just declaring it imo.
Hence “Coming Soon” is a better name.
As an artist, the experience matters more than the name of a place. The current name, calls out the targeted audience.
As a non artist, the name is all that matters to me, which is why I’ll definitely be stopping by the Thirsty Beaver when visiting Charlotte next week… ![]()

honestly I kinda dig it
Think it’s already a business model named ‘the Artist’s Lounge’ (based on how the owners identify themselves…… ) which seems to be a patio / garden space that has been more of an event space in a downtown adjacent property and this is the evolution of that in a more permanent multi-use space downtown. I wager that rooftop is a ‘ phase two’ down the road if / when this works kinda thing.
Cool repurposing of an old bones building that they’re not tearing down and an interesting level-up for an existing small-biz enterprise. Figure y’all would be stooooked, branding notwithstanding….![]()
Yeah, I know. That project is partly why I have low expectations for this one… It seemed like it was mostly just ticketed pool parties oriented towards instagramability; the “art” portion served more to brand the experience than anything else. Hopefully moving into a dedicated space downtown will help them lean into the art side more.
I do appreciate that it seems like it’s been a hub for the black community. I know in Durham there’s been a lot of discussion about how post-renaissance downtown doesn’t feel inclusive to everyone anymore, but we’ve now started to see a resurgence of black-owned spaces that prioritize a more welcoming environment.
Just found out Woody’s @ City Market is under new ownership. Their websites aren’t even on the same host anymore.

From what I heard through the grapevine, the former owners (who are still working the old restaurants) didn’t want anything to do with downtown Raleigh anymore.
