Glad there is new ownership, but sorry the old ones are burned out by DTR. City Market should be such a happening spot. Its sad that a combo of factors keep it limping along.
major bummer, love going there.. hope it doesn’t change much
Why can’t someone figure it out? It should be a major city destination but it is a complete after thought.
It needs a complete re-imagining and some centralized vision and execution if that is possible.
Well, we do know the owners of the market hall seem totally uninterested in doing anything. It is just so darn frustrating.
Woody’s gave me horrific food poisoning once, will never return no matter who owns it.
I hear Amedeo’s on Western blvd. is in for rezoning and demo of the site with proposed 4-5 story apartment building on that lot.
1.5 acres owned by Wolfgang Investment Properties LLC (Rodney Byrd) of Holly Springs since 2015. I wonder when Amedeo’s lease comes up for renewal.
Any idea of the timeframe? Are they imminently closing?
Hope they put some retail in there and make it more urban in form. This will be right across from a BRT stop.
The TBJ article says 2-3 years given timeline on current leases, rezoning, site work, etc.
I love Amedeo’s, but honestly haven’t been in years. I go to PR and Mitch’s pretty regularly given proximity to campus, but Amedeo’s (and Sammy’s) always being a bit further from campus and more on individual islands led to me not visiting as much as I would like to. TBH, if the timelines had aligned, I would have loved to see Amedeo’s take over the spot on Hillsborough that Raisin’ Canes is now in.
I ate there last Fall. It was fine but nothing spectacular. What was charming when I was at State decades ago is beginning to feel pretty tired. I’d like to see them move to Hillsborough as well, and would love to seem them go into the original Darryl’s space!
The site has to be rezoned and there was no first floor retail. All apartments. Not sure how BRT is impacting the site but if ROW needed they lose valuable parking.
Amedeo’s owner is part of the LLC. Site is old so you can imagine the issues.
It’s kind of wild how it’s almost exclusively Asian restaurants that are opening in downtown proper anymore - this, the vietnamese place that took over for Mofu Shoppe, and the ramen/izakaya that’s coming in the old Royale spot. I’m all for it - anything opening downtown is good! - but it’s just something that I’ve noticed recently
That’s because we had a 2 year taco monopoly
Asian food (any Asian country’s food) is better than any other food in the world so I’m completely, perfectly fine with this!
Even with the onion volcano fire and the chef throwing zucchini at your face? Man, I don’t know if dining gets any better than that.
Funguys taproom is closed but they’re still brewing according to this Instagram post:
