General Retail/Restaurant News

Ate at Fallafel and Co for lunch on Saturday with the wife. Barely anyone inside. They have a shield up all along the food area and at the counter. Employees wore gloves. I ordered for my wife and I and I got a beer. She waited outside (she’s pregnant so taking no risks). We sat outside at the picnic tables. We felt safe and we had a great lunch. Almost felt normal again. We will be returning soon since we are feeling confident in eating outside on large patios.

We’re headed to Morning Times but not planning to go inside. Just pickup for breakfast. Will (edit) share experience once we’re done.

And Happy Memorial Day! Thank you to all of those on the forum that have served our country!

Armadillo Grill has set up a lot of new tables out in their parking lot. I walked by yesterday and they were all full.

I’ve had curbside pickup from Crawford and Son twice now, and Jolie just last night. Their food is so good. This is actually the same amount of times I’d been to those places since they’ve opened. This shutdown is going wind up making me a regular…

We’ve hit up St Roch, 5 Star, Alimentary, LawrenceBBQ and Oakwood Pizza Box. Tried Stanbury once but late to the game, so bonked that one. Oh, and pretty much regulars for Union Special… :face_with_hand_over_mouth:
We’ve been making versions of Pooles and Garland faves in anticipation of them reopening…

I forget if this was posted already, but Five Star said they’re closing up after next weekend in order to do their move. Excited to see their new space!

I think the new Five Star space will be cool, but that old one was awesome. I’m sorry to not get to go in there again before they move.

Also, regarding their old space, as clarified by @keita in the RUS Bus thread, the RUS Bus facility is not as far along as a lot of us had thought and it appears they don’t need to break ground this summer, they just need to go under contract this summer.

Char Grill is popping as usual. Not sure they ever lost any business

CharGrill was intrinsically built for social distancing. Visionary!!

I did go to Taverna Agora today. Best place to peep at the new Pendo tower. They will have a gorgeous view once it’s complete. That giant tower with The Dillon looming in the background.

Also, for everyone who is very much understandably not going to go out for a little while longer, just know you are in for a treat once you do. DT Raleigh restaurants fresh and still hot food FAR exceeds my cooking prowess any day of the week!

At least in the short term, Bloc83’s construction has been great for them! Steady supply of workers needing lunch and/or dinner every day…

Just had my first official meal post restaurant opening at MoJos. Delicious. Great service. Delicious cold beer served by someone. Oh, it felt so good.

Sign of the times. Will likely be seeing more changes like this…

i feel like that location sucks, right by all the bus station sketchiness. it’s the only one of their locations i never go to. it’s also go to be on its 3rd concept in 3 years now. im sure it’ll be good, tho!

It’s a shotgun footprint and that long skinny layout is going to be problematic in the ‘new’ world, so it’s probably a good time to revamp. Busy Bee had a good thing going on - I personally thought they pulled the plug on that in the interest of the Trophy brand when they didn’t need to. The first Tap + Table concept with rotisserie chicken thing - well, you can’t be more expensive and not as good as the local standard bearers and they never met the Mami’s / Alpaca level in execution and they took away the damned TOTS. Then, they kinda brought back some of the Busy Bee elements (and the tots) but at that point, the competition in town kinda squeezed them, the ‘sketch’ you point out remains a thing to some (but not to Slim’s HaHa) and probably they’re more focused elsewhere…?
It’ll be interesting to see how they pivot IF as the post says, this place speaks to who they are and their business / development roots.

This was my favorite location, especially the rooftop with the good views of downtown. It had fits and starts trying to figure out what it wanted to be but it was my favorite place to go for a while with those views and some loaded tots. Look forward to the new concept. The grittiness is also something I kinda appreciate, I think it’s better than parking at a suburban location with all people that look just like me, but I suppose that’s a personal opinion lol

Their (Trophy Tap and Table) food was average and average food doesn’t have much of a chance downtown.

Cameron Bar and Grill just posted that they won’t be re-opening and are closing for good.

It would be the 3rd concept in 12 years, right?

it was busy bee 3 years ago, then tap and table, and then whatever they come up with now.
