Speaking of vibes on Glenwood, here are some recent pics from a night at Vidrio/Ale House.

Vidrio is such a gem, such a cool space. It doesn’t get enough hype in my opinion.

Speaking of Glenwood South. Some cool new street art just popped up there between Southern Charred and Vidrio

Glenwood South is reaching a critical mass that will only accelerate attention on the district. I suspect that this decade will see a lot of change to GS with some of the bar scene wiped out by redevelopment. This would include most buildings between Johnson and Peace, where low rise converted homes and former businesses dominate the landscape. The sort of redevelopment that I suspect will happen will be sudden and large scale in the way that SH set the precedent.

that require more transportation.

whaaat? Everything I mentioned in the Warehouse District is within 3 blocks’ walk of each other; same for the Moore Square scenario!

I guess the main distinction is that everything in Glenwood South is on a single street, which definitely lends itself to a different kind of continuous vibrancy… other areas of Raleigh tend to be more clusters.

Has anyone tried Iris Coffee lab over off St. Mary’s, right within the GS district? Just curious if it’s worth a trip.

I think it is only on oct 3rd and the 10th though…

Frankly, it’s a little late in the season to START doing this. Nonetheless, it’s a great idea and I can’t wait to see what what it looks like.

I’m all for it - we finally seem to’ve tracked out of the 90s.
There’s three months of sweater weather ahead… :slightly_smiling_face:

Wonder why we’re not using the plazas we just had renovated for this as well?

They’re doing this as part of restaurant week I think.

No one has mentioned the fact that Fayetteville Street just doesn’t feel all that welcoming in the human scale sense. I personally have never really liked the feel of it for al fresco dining. Eating a nice dinner outdoors in a wind tunnel is just not appealing. Festivals and other events are fine because other things bring the focus down to human scale (chalk art festival, Spark Con, food trucks, parades). And it has little character save for the very few remaining historic buildings. It feels pretty sterile and uninteresting in my opinion. I’m not sure how to overcome that.

On another note, I noticed this new street art on the Dillon that seems to be encouraging people to shop at Urban Outfitters.

Why are they boarding up again?

There is some nice new artwork in Glenwood South (510) as well. I’ll grab a pic soon.

Did you see Durham last night? I’m normally in downtown Durham Wednesday nights too, just happened to be paying my respects to Bottle Rev in RTP for its last week. I’m getting pretty sick of riots every time there’s some bad news from another state. I’m sure Raleigh is in for another round at some point.
