I’ve noticed that all of the lots around them sold within the last several months (Pelican ice, Zack’s grocery store, Oasis car wash, etc.). Did the GC suggest any sort of timeline? That would be really incredible- this mart is questionable at best during the day, and hazardous at night.
They are starting the design phase now. Hopefully first part of 2021
Thats cool, is it safe area? East side growing but not sure they are ready for that? but that would be good to see it
If you go a block in on both sides of New Bern you would be surprised at the new construction. Almost or above 50/50 gentrified now.
On Martin street there is a small grocery store called Twins Grocery I believe. Getting surrounded by a much different demographic. I encourage everyone to ride by and view the dichotomy. It’s interesting.
Yea, the name is Twins Grocery, it’s one of the main reasons we didn’t purchase one of the houses on the corner of Martin and Haywood. Also because there wasn’t a garage or the ability to build one.
We walked by the other day when a fight broke out and one of the individuals voluntarily took off her shirt.
I enjoy some of these little bodega shops sprinkled around downtown, I walk to this one all the time, just wish some of the customers wouldn’t party and linger out front for hours.
Yup. Every time I ride by at least 10 or more outside. In various states of clothing. Not sure why that appears to be the gathering place.
Looks like Bars and Movie theaters will finally get a little relief this Friday at 5pm. I anticipate Glenwood South being even more crowded this weekend. Let’s hope Dogwood doesn’t exceed their 11pm curfew again and disturb the residents over at Peace.
I wonder if they’ll allow bars to create temp spaces on the street: “Bars cannot serve alcohol indoors but can have an outdoor seating area of up to 100 people, 30 percent of the outdoor capacity or seven people per 1,000 square feet, whichever is least.”
I was in New Bern recently and they closed one of the busier streets for a few hours on Saturday evening and allowed the restaurants to setup tables on the street. They even put up string lighting. It was pretty cool and festive.
Trying to think who this would allow to open. Only can think of Cornerstone at the moment.
I’m hoping for dram and draught and foundation. Both would benefit from sidewalk seating.
Has to be an improvement.
Alternative Request (APA 10/15) for a nice potential restaurant space with outdoor area at the corner Hillsborough and Boylan (replacing Taylor’s capital service)
I’m not sure where else to post this but Raleigh’s first cat café is open now near downtown: https://purrcupcafe.com/.
It looks like they will be closing down Fayetteville, Hargett & Martin both Saturday’s during restaurant week. Oct 3rd & 10th.
From Downtown Raleigh Alliance called “Dine Out Downtown”:
DRA is also hosting Dine Out Downtown on the two Saturdays during Restaurant Week, October 3 & 10 from 5 - 9 pm. We’ll be closing Fayetteville Street (Morgan St to Davie St), Hargett Street (Wilmington St to Salisbury St), and Martin Street (Wilmington St to Salisbury St). The streets will be decorated with lights and art and we will have tables and chairs where you can enjoy your restaurant takeout and expanded outdoor dining spaces. Free parking in city lots will be available on Wilmington St.
Cool! Fingers crossed for good weather.
New Bern is our second home and its been doing very well. They close Middle street downtown Friday and Saturday evenings for the restaurants to serve. Its been pretty busy this summer considering the convention hotel has been off line since hurricane Florence. We know some of the merchants downtown who tell us they have had as good a summer as any. Raleigh really needs to think outside the box.
It’s a great town. Glad to hear it’s been faring well.
It looks like Lonerider Beer will replace the now closed “The Pointe” at 5 points. They hired a pretty well respected chef Ron West previously with Mandolin, Flemings and MOFU.
“Lonerider continues to expand their Hideout program by adding their first full restaurant at The Point in Five Points, Raleigh. This has been a popular location for decades in Raleigh and will feature pizza, wings, salads, and more! The full bar, and outdoor container bar, will feature Lonerider beers and spirits as well as having a strong wine program. Lonerider has brought in Ron West, previously at Flemings, Mandolin, and MOFU, to run the food program.”
