This is great. The Pointe was… Interesting… Played shows there several times in the past. Always brought a savage crowd, and management was questionable.
Interesting. I heard that handyman hardware (Tarborro and New Bern) used to be in this space. Would add another easy easy bike ride for those of us East of Raleigh Blvd and North of New Bern.
Handyman Hardware is still there in a different shopping center, up the street next to Bojangles! Great local hardware spot.
That’s fantastic! Lonerider is pretty decent, and I always have a soft spot for them from my Brier Creek days. I’ve been to the Pointe twice and wasn’t impressed either time. One of the reasons I don’t find myself in Five Points that much is I never had an anchor or specific draw. I’m pretty excited about this!
I picked up dinner from Irregardless last night and downtown was probably the busiest I’ve seen since pre-pandemic. Lots of people enjoying the weather outdoors at Calavera, Trophy, Morgan St., State of Beer, Paddy’O Beers, Raleigh Times, etc. These parklets are making a big difference!
And restaurant week! Waits at nearly all downtown restaurants.
Meanwhile, any business with a Private Club/Nightclub license and limited outdoor space can’t open at any meaningful capacity. Like the pour house music hall and record shop…
Yeah - we ate at The Point about a year or so ago. It was OK, but nothing to write home about. Would love to see Lonerider do well in that spot.
Interior of former Five Star seems to be pretty intact, oddly… I would’ve thought they’d have brought more of it to the new location.
Also, the BBQ place by @OakCityDylan’s alleged new home is coming along. Like the roofing and awnings.
I have on good source that it’s opening on 11/3.
Election day bbq party!
No way!!! That’s excellent news!
Hope my source is good. I suspect it is.
I also heard that opening date, but based on my experience with getting a new restaurant open, I can’t believe that date. I would guess more late winter/early spring.
This restaurant in the pic will not open 11/3. Need more work still. But soon
That’s what I have loved about this forum for years. “It’s ugly, it’s a box, and you are wrong”.
…Unless they’re able to get the smokehouse going early for selling takeout somewhere. The permitting process can take a long while and getting a commercial kitchen approved and open takes more than a month. I went by a couple days ago and I stand by my guesstimate of late winter/early spring at the earliest. But BBQ in April is a wonderful thing.
I’m new to this forum, but I’ve seen enough places open around many places. I’ll assure you (even bet you) this won’t open before Dec opening. You can be glad about what you want to be
My apologies, was just venting. Either way we have some good eats coming.
no worries, that’s what you call what I was doing!! I like how you put that! Yes we sure do! That place is a beauty, and in a sweet location (I love the south, nice alternative to everywhere else). I am looking forward to good bbq also! Very good eats
