Oh sweet! I didn’t realize/remember this was another RACo project. :ok_hand:t3:

I didn’t see a mention of Mecca closing down in here. Anyone know the background of this? Renovation or completely shut down?

Too small . Can’t operate unless 100% occupancy allowed

It’s not just “closed”, the windows are covered like when they’re remodeling or completely overhauling a space. I’m guessing it’s Mecca no longer.

I certainly hope not!! That’s an institution and would be a great loss.
Eating there is a like a step back in time, I love that space.

Their website says they’re temporarily closed, and Google says they’re open for pick-up. Neither one may have been updated recently. Could you call them?

New independent book store opens in Downtown Raleigh (what I consider downtown at least).

Cafe Luna posted pictures of their new outdoor space for dinning. Looks great, and I’m not exactly sure what took them so long, they own the whole building from the basement to the law firm above.

Also Downtown Raleigh Alliance is reporting the re-opening of Pour House and Boxcar arcade, which is fantastic news, those two spots are huge for bringing the crowds back to downtown.

Raleigh chef Scott Crawford is expanding into Clayton, and some of the menu items will be featured at Crawford & Son in the meantime.

Boxcar has been SLAMED since they reopened. Earlier this week there was an evening (week day mind you) that the line was around the corner. What the hell did people do without Boxcar???

FAYETTEVILLE STREET SHOULD BE A PEDESTRIAN and BIKE ONLY STREET! Lol

It’s an extremely small street and it is always closed off for festivals and New Year’s Eve. Plus Raleigh needs more pedestrian friendly streets

Looking at Google earth it looks like it used to be ped only until the mid 2000s

The “Bicentennial Mall” as it was initially called was pedestrian from the late 70s through the mid 00s. I was one of the folks who wanted it renovated to remain in place, but the overwhelming sentiment was for it to be returned to a street. The city really wanted a ceremonial parade route street, and attributed the decline of downtown to the pedestrian mall itself.
