I wanted to share 2 updates from yesterday’s Transit Authority meeting.
New seats are being installed on all the buses. Probably 90% of buses will be done this Summer with the remainder being our oldest buses which will be decommissioned this year/next year. (so they won’t have their seats replaced)
On the budget side of things, I thought these requested improvements for the next fiscal year (starting in July 1, 2025) are noteworthy:
Route 2 goes to 15 min, 7 days
Route 1 and 15 increases to 15 min freqs on weekends
FYI, we, Oaks and Spokes, is trying for this again! Friday March 21st. Meet at 4:00 PM at GoRaleigh Station on the Hargett Street Side. We will ride the DRX to Durham on the 4:10 bus. The plan is to take the 6:55 bus back to Raleigh.
Fares can be paid using the Umo App or using an Umo card retrieved from the customer assistance area at GoRaleigh Station or Regional Transit Center.
I just wanna compliment whoever y’all got doing the branding and design work - love that little oak leaf character. Do you know the graphic designer who’s working with y’all??
Did they happen to address the trash that seems to gather around the bus stops and the trash receptacles that are not emptied in a timely fashion? Or maybe that wasn’t the correct forum for that. Just wondering here.
Yes. That’s why they won’t change the seats on these older ones that are about to be sent to the farm. They’ll be replaced with newer buses with the new seats anyway.
Why don’t they transfer the new seats from the new busses onto the old busses, and the old seats onto the new busses, making all the busses about equal and thus doubling the number of busses? Are they stupid? (/s)
not a bad idea, I think the idea is the old buses are scheduled to be decommissioned in fiscal year 2026 anyway and the agency is likely looking for ways to cut costs
I really hope GoTriangle keeps the old style seats when they upgrade their seats although I don’t think they will.
The old style seats are cloth and cushioned. where as the new seats are thin and wrapped in latex (or latex like material). Latex/plastic is wayyy easier to clean and probably more sanitary..
BUT, the old cloth seats are far more comfortable…
