On my morning walk, I captured these photos of organizers setting up for tomorrow on the East side of the Capitol building. Festivities start at 10AM. See the photo of the sign for more details. I look forward to seeing everyone’s celebration photos!

We didn’t go to the parade but kind of skirted around downtown at that time. Things don’t look that well attended. Anyone get a glimpse of the crowds?

The full parade is on the WRAL website. It looked like a small town 4th parade on video, and that’s okay with me.
The festival on Union Square was busy for the hour that I was there between 10:15 and 11:15.
Now I’m in the house until tonight when I walk to Dix Park for fireworks.

My family and I checked out the festival for a bit around 10:30. I would say it was moderately attended, not super light, but also not a huge crowd.
@John’s pics show some of the highlights. We thought the stand where you throw a pie at either King George or a redcoat was funny. There were people in historical garb, a choir, and a handful of activities for kids, including painting an American flag on a snow plow (funny since it was so hot), planting seeds in a compostable pot, and the Hurricanes had a couple of inflatables and a place where the kids could play hockey.

We stayed on the outskirts of downtown. Trying to avoid the crowds, plus it was just so hot. I had to save my strength for my 3am fake THC-fueled raging on the streets of GloSo with my fellow teens.

I hiked up to the city’s fireworks at Dix Park. Unlike years past where I arrived early, I purposely waited until nearly 9PM to leave my place to walk there. I got there about 10 minutes before the show and just in time to hear Mayor Cowell greet the attendees from the stage. It was a nice fireworks show that lasted 26 minutes by my watch, and it was set to a collection of patriotic and local-adjacent song selections including: God Bless the USA, Party in the USA, Sweet Caroline, and local favorite Wagon Wheel.
The city gave out free water like was done at the Capitol grounds earlier in the day. This time it was sparkling.

That must have freaked out the natives. Never seen so many sparkling water haters than since I’ve lived here.

Did anyone else miss the news that we were having a parade? It was hotter than the gates of hell so I doubt I would have walked to see it. But I swear I don’t recall the advertising of it anywhere

I completely missed it too! I would have gone as well. I ended up at the Capitol grounds around 10:30AM but would have gladly come earlier to watch the parade.
