Hillsborough Street Mixed Use Projects Near NC State

I walked by there the other day and it was flattened. The rubble also smelled of mildew.

I drove by there a few days ago and they’ve put up a net around the whole building. I imagine the demolition itself isn’t too far away.

I was just about to say we drove by there a couple of days ago and I noticed them pulling the net around the building.

There have been 2 or 3 people on site everyday going through the rooms and cleaning it out.

Workers were removing glass doors this morning. Can see inside now and appears to just be the shell of the building at this point. More workers on site too, probably about 10 folks compared to the usual 2 or 3.

Sounds like the IHOP house on Hillsborough St. might stay after all, but under a new restaurant.

Being inspected today for Mami’s offspring.

Wish it was housing, but anything is better than its current state.

There’s like 8 million units on all sides of it. Lol.

I was happy they were tearing this down, but if they are gonna do something with it, that’s better than letting it sit there looking like crap.

Be a darn cool building to repurpose. With the desnity around it, seems smart.

Are you saying it’s going to be Peruvian? If so, I’m good!

This is a college iconic building for me. Soooo many late night walks down Hillsborough Street for 2 or 3 AM meals at IHOP. My granddad even mentioned going to IHOP when he was at State in the 40s/50s. I would hate to see this building go, even if IHOP has been gone for years.

Is the IHOP still open in Stanhope?

That is where they moved to from the old building, but they went out of business in Stanhope during Covid (?). It has been a few years now. Overall, IHOP is past its prime as a chain anyway. There is one near our house on Six Forks, the service is always bad, and the parking lot is nearly empty every time I drive by. IMO its days are numbered.

We’re going to lose the Berkeley building but heaven forbid we lose the IHOP building!

I’m mostly making fun, but it does seem like a very lopsided contest of which one should be more valued. In my opinion of course.

I’m also definitely NOT suggesting since we lost one, don’t fight for the other.

Yeah I tried to find it on a map and it didn’t come up. It’s a shame how their rebrand didn’t help much. I guess if the space is still vacant it should be filled by Waffle House.

Oh wow! I remember it feeling so small in there when I was there at 3AM after a night out! LOL

Yup. Given the choice I’d pick Waffle House. Never been to a Denny’s to compare.

way back when, like 1970’s I lived 2 blocks away from this IHOP, friends and I would go there 2 -3 times a week and got to know sever of the waitresses (mostly local collage girls) really will, to point of being invited to their parties, Enjoyable memories !!! :pancakes:
