The cathedral has ~600 parking spaces for a building that seats 2000. The original plan in 2011 had a three-level parking deck, but when the project was downsized from $90M to $45M the parking deck was deleted. The property is what remains of the 400-acre tract that the Roman Catholic Church bought in 1897.
Always thought that if I somehow became egregiously wealthy, my first order of business would be to foster some sort of relationship with the diocese and convince them to let me build that deck and a bunch of beautiful mixed use brick buildings, ultimately surrounding the cathedral such that itâs the centerpiece of a big public plaza. Have to think that would do wonders for it and the city as a tourist attraction.
Sell them on having places to have brunch after church.
Great place for a beer garden âŚ
And unlike some Christians, Catholics like to drink!
Itâs pretty much a requirement. Jesusâs blood at communion is upwards of 30 proof.
Nobody would want to work there because theyâd make $0 in tips lmao
Why do you say that?
post-Sunday-church-goers are notoriously known as some of the worst tippers, ask a service industry friend hahaha
canât be expected to tip right after tithe!
Seriously, enough with the church bashing. If religion isnât for you, great. But please stop bashing and (incorrectly) generalizing those who do attend.
Not bashing at all! Just making jokes. You probably tip normally (I wouldnât imagine someone who is invested enough in their city to be on a small local development blog wouldnât know to tip our servers because of our insane low pay/tipping culture for service employees!) but again - Sunday post-church brunch crowd is notorious among the service industry for being bad tippers - ask your service industry friends! With that said, I was simply making a joke in reference to someone saying there should be a brunch spot next to the cathedral. No need to take that personally, man. Especially if youâre not one of the Sunday low/no tippers! ![]()
Also if it makes it more palatable - the biggest âcommunityâ Iâm a part of is the local music scene, and I make fun of that ALL THE TIME hahahahhaa - so again, nothing to take personally. In fact, my biggest community is largely made up of the people your biggest community doesnât tip!! (come on now, that was a good joke!!! laugh at joke!!! Plz!!!
)
I was a server. I donât recall experiencing that. Also, Iâm not sure that Catholics are notoriously bad tippers to begin with. But, who knows?
My mom is⌠LOL

Catholics might be a bit more flippant with their cash after church since theyâre going INTO brunch with a lil wine buzz already ![]()
And they can drink at brunch too.
If my recollection of Goodfellas counts for anything, they tip pretty well.
