Historic City Market

It was super niche but had some really cool drinks that you couldn’t get elsewhere. Wish that place survived.

Yeah. It was super niche and also in a pretty hidden, rarely visited area. I don’t know how anything survives over there. I still maintain if the event space went back to being a brewery, this whole area would thrive.

I mean… if the event space were literally anything other than an empty, unused building for 96% of its current life - the area would at very least not just be a total deadzone. A brewery, a daily market and cafe, a f**king AT&T store - anything would be better than the actual nothing that it is lmao

That likely doesn’t happen until or unless Northpond is able to acquire ownership of City Market. I really hope they’re successful at it. City Market has so much untapped potential and is one of the most unique locations in all of downtown. There are so many sections of City Market that have fallen into disrepair complete disrepair with no remediation efforts whatsoever.

The current management appears to be comfortable with the path of least resistance. They’re sitting on a gold mine and aren’t doing anything because shovels are too expensive.

Just gonna leave this here. Not sure what implications there may be for Social Status in City Market.

TL;DR: Social Status is being accused of being a Chinese money laundering operation.

I’ve read about this and apparently it’s been “known” for years, but now there’s receipts. Would be a shame for the shop to close, it’s actually cool and sells streetwear brands you can’t really get anywhere else around here.

Multiple gunshots fired from a car right outside of City Market. Not sure what happened.

Ruff Raleigh!!!

Seriously. I hope no one was harmed.

No one nor buildings was hit. Just a discharge of a firearm. Seems the non-boomers the news interviewed weren’t too concerned since it’s just want happens in cities.

New Years Eve Downtown will have extra, extra security.

I didn’t see anything in that article that mentions anyone’s generation.

there’s a video john

So they interview a couple of people and that’s enough evidence to make comments that generalize generations? They speak to a mother and adult daughter who took an Uber directly to their downtown destination (didn’t say from where) and someone who works in the immediate neighborhood, and that’s all the evidence that’s needed?
They then end the story with a statement about all the security that’s going to be present for all those revelers who will be coming into downtown to ring in the new year. I guess that those revelers must be Boomers because the city is so concerned about safety and crime?

i wasn’t generalizing generations, but this non boomer agrees that if you refuse to step foot in any city center that has ever had shots fired in it, you’re probably not going to have many places left

It’s not just non-boomers who feel the way that you do. Conversely, there are plenty of non-boomers who won’t step foot in downtown because of real/perceived safety concerns.

I’d say plenty of rural areas have had shots fired out of cars as well. Probably more than any city.

I go downtown to hang out quite often, and I’ve never experienced any problems. Media is a hell of a drug and this has been proven repeatedly. Every city has crime and Raleigh has less… Downtown Raleigh is SAFE!

There are now 2 different wedding dress stores in city market? I’d be poised if I were the owner of the first one

I’m sure that they want everyone wearing their dresses to be poised.
