Or, alternately: any proposal for something exactly like it today would be laughed out of town by exactly the same outrage machine. See, well, any other high-rise proposal!

It’s more than half an acre, which is large enough to swallow both the Casso Hotel (ex-Origin) and the planned Moxy Hotel, which are both on quarter-acre parcels without on-site parking. (Casso’s parking garage is a separate parcel.)

The gravel lot is 100’+ deep, so it’s large enough for a parking aisle + ramp. And dual-brand hotels are all the rage these days.

while i was riding around in DTR several days ago i did notice some HVAC company trucks in the parking lot. perhaps because some of the trees were wihtout leaves but coming down capital from the north the ’curler’ does occupy some neat visual space. Google Maps

Nothing uploaded yet, but something to keep an eye on that was just submitted before the holidays.

Let’s go ahead and severely lower our expectations for any exterior renovations/improvements.

The current hotel has a 320 Hillsborough address, so supposedly this would be a new development in the empty lot facing Dawson St?

Google maps does indeed show that this is a separate parcel with its own address of 300 Hillsborough. Google Maps names it Dawson Lot. Nice eagle eye!

Yep, PIN 1703597306 is the vacant lot, not the round Indigo hotel.

Both this property and the parcel that houses the hotel are owned by the cleverly named “Hillsborough Owner LLC” out of NYC.

Plans are up, 13 story hotel next door

I think that height/number of floors are referred to as 12 stories +1.

Regardless, this is good news for that parking lot!!

Are they going to remodel the Holiday Inn first, build this hotel next door, then tear down the Holiday Inn and build a new/expanded section of the hotel?

I’m just throwing this theory out there for consideration.

the plans:

pretty inoffensive and boring

No. They’re currently dumping money into the remodel and got the existing protected as historic. That would require an insane amount of effort and would not make any sense (common sense or financial sense)

So, you mean 14 stories

They literally cannot tear down the Holiday Inn now because they got it designated as protected Historic status. So, enjoy!

Actually looks good. I’d call this a win. Excited to see that dead lot go away.
