I’d never heard Empire owned this property…always heard it was a women owned biz…?

scratch that- you are right! I’ve been lead astray. Either way, glad it’s on the Historic registry

Second Empire is owned by the Reynolds family. The Sr. Reynolds bought the house and turned it into a restaurant specifically for his wife to run.

That is going to be a much larger hotel than I had imagined!

I see that the ASR has been approved for the Kimpton Hotel. Now on to site permitting.

Whats the latest on this on? Really hoping it will go soon.

The site permits have not been approved yet nor the building permit.

How about the demolition permit? I really thought this would’ve been getting going by now. Starting to get worried it’s on hold indefinitely like so many other things. Moxy, the Madison, the Creamery, the Acorn adjacent hotel, maybe RUSbus, the old Goodnight’s, etc.

This one had a longer timeline from the get go. Not sure why. But I don’t think demo or construction were supposed to start by now even based on the initial schedule.

Give up and move to Pittsboro. Hampton Inn, Lowe’s Food, Peoples Coffee, Hops and Berrys, even a couple new funeral homes all under construction! No more disappointment. Just have to coexist with the granola type, Subaru drivers that have infiltrated eastern Chatham county.

The last review for the site permits was completed on 5/23. They just had a few items to correct. One item being that they needed to get some permits from NCDOT. That could delay things.

Check out The Plant for your hippie mall experience, my dear friend from HS owns/runs it with her husband

Is NCDOT always involved in these projects? Feels like an odd body to need permits from as a “normal” building with no interesting street or transit interactions.

It might be because Dawson St. is State controlled and maintained.

But I could be wrong.

Ha! You are right about that! Definitely hippie, much of Pittsboro is like that. Phoenix Bakery, Cafe Diem, Small B&B ect…. However I tend to gravitate more toward the retiree side of the Pittsboro demographic….Old, crusty, HOA watchdog.

Hillsborough and Dawson Streets are state controlled, so any work that has to be done in the right of way requires NCDOT’s blessing.

Hotels are actually faring quite well right now. This Kimpton if done right will absolutely crush it. Hope they are pushing ahead quickly as the hotel bar in Raleigh so desperately needs to be raised.

This one also includes 6-stories of apartment rental units - it’s absolutely going to happen!
