Nice! While this seems really close to the aquatics center at Pullen Park, it does provide capacity for a growing city center and east side. It’s just a shame that it’s not directly on the BRT line. Nonetheless, it’s still a net positive.

A lot of those images were in the schematic design that the city council approved late 2024 though Evoke Architecture is the design consultant. The city projects page for John Chavis Memorial Park states “The project will be in the Design Development and Construction Document Phases through 2026.”

Yes that is the site I pulled the pics.
It’s my understanding this project is a GO as it was part of the Parks and Rec Bonds. I’ll defer to @JLambertMelton for some more real time updates, but when I talked to City Staff at a strollway meeting this was set to be well on its way.

Yes funding approved in 2022 parks bond, starting construction this fall.

It’s a great park and the aquatics center will be a really nice project and community space addition.
One thing I can’t seem to figure out is the 4 covered shelter spaces. 2 shelters would be fine and 4 is more than over kill. It’s like the planners for this area couldn’t come up with anything better so copy pasted shelters as a default.
I’d really like to eventually see the shelter spaces reconfigured to be more accessible from the parking lot for folks that want to utilize the space. Maybe a shelter near the parking lot fo the pool area and another park feature could replace one of the shelters near the creek.
I’m thinking something like a tennis or pickleball court would be a fun addition to the park to replace Shelter 2.

Don’t they have a camera to catch the perpetrator? If intentionally damaged, the guilty party needs to pay for it.

I doubt they heavily use the cameras. If so, they’d see a lot or they are ignoring a lot… this section is where they need some cameras.

Why do you say this? I live right by here and never notice anything unsafe…now inside of all the shelters is a very different story
