Moore Square

The artist who designed the railings at Market and Exchange plazas did this exact thing. He intentionally made glide plates on the top of each railing that can be replaced and look like they are part of the design.
I’m trying to find the article where he describes it but, Im having trouble.

Now, when someone gets hurt or dies because the city enabled skateboarders, will the city be held accountable? If a private developer enabled it, could they be sued or held criminally liable? Yet another nuance.

As for expense, the city is already spending money on cleats to prevent the behavior. It wouldn’t surprise me if the city’s attorney is aligned with this approach to protect the city from liability.

Those rails must not be challenging enough.
Need those sweet granite blocks that Moore Square has.

It’s honestly the parks fault walking around looking so grindable.

So if have nice looking design have to put up with skateboarding jumping off of it into walkways and such.

Didn’t know skating was illegal.

Sure is where signs are posted to not skate.

I wonder if a sign stating “Skate at your own risk” would be enough to absolve the city of blame / responsibility / liability in case of injury.

What about people injured by skateboarders? Put up sign saying enter park at on risk, wild skateboarders?

When did I say that skateboarding was illegal? The skateboard community has been using that narrative for years now to play the bullied victim.
Skateboarding is not illegal, but vandalism is. How is that not clear?
If in fact it’s written somewhere that skateboarding inherently requires destructing and vandalizing public and private property, only then can we call the activity illegal.

I see this example more as the city protecting it’s property than enabling skateboarders. The skateboarders are still using the infrastructure for an activity it wasn’t explicitly built for, so I think they’d have a tough case litigating the city for an injury.

But this is America and I’m sure someone would try anyway.

Part of the culture and creativity of skateboarding is street skating. Let the kids skate. Who cares if they pry off the metal things that are only there to prevent them from skating.

I love the aesthetic of the trellis. I sure hope that it’s maintained, and that they chose a wood species that will resist warping!
