Municipal Services and Safety in DTR

So, I just checked imaps and the bank doesn’t even own the corner property that has that small surface lot on it. So, from an optics standpoint, these bins aren’t even adjacent to the bank property.

Let’s start a goFundUs and buy that lot and demand they put them back.

Its tax value is $722,000
The land is owned by someone on Canterbury Road.

ha, that’s perfect. If you’ve never been down Canterbury, its one of the best streets ITB.

I snooped and looked it up. It’s owned by someone that lives at the southwest corner of Canterbury and Fairview.

House of Swank just started a petition if anyone wants to support: http://chng.it/ZZr7vDGdbY

“We are encourage the Raleigh City Council to leave the Underground Trash Collection Pilot Program (Moloks) in place AT LEAST until they APPROVE another location near Hargett and Wilmington Streets.”

So for those of us who are tech-unsavy… how can you sign the petition if I’m not on Twitter?

I signed it an hour ago and it was in the 400s. It sounds like it’s gaining momentum!

I signed the petition as well. I understand the optics issues @orulz went through and agree with others that there is another property between the bins and M&F so it’s not directly adjacent. If the city does follow through with removal because of this they should identify and announce the new location ASAP (i.e. before they are removed).

I think the optics go away as soon as you build a few more. Don’t remove. Just expedite the construction at more locations.

@ericraleigh I’m not buying the validity of the optics issue on this one. There is no visibility at all to the business in question and it’s not adjacent to the Moloks’ location. Where it is located is central to A LOT of restaurant and bar operations that create a lot of waste that was otherwise clogging and stinking up the sidewalks in individual bins.
For those who buy the validity of the optics argument, where in fact would it have to be to no longer cause this perceived problem?
I still think that there’s something else going on here that involves the potential sale of the adjacent parking lot property, and perhaps a collection of adjacent properties to it. That’s my unfounded “conspiracy theory” and I’m sticking to it until the real issue is uncovered.
Lastly, as was reported in a recent OpEd from Denver about bike lanes and a fatality that resulted from a neighborhood’s push to not have safe ones, and I paraphrase, you don’t own the street in front of your property.

It just popped up in my Facebook feed. Looks like over 700 now. I think they will easily reach a thousand. Very encouraging indeed.
