Would love to see it - a corridor up West and (continuing by bike if you like) along Bickett to the breweries / BrightSpot would be cool. That’s then not too far from Iron Works, et al…HEck if that could merge back into Brookside above Mordecai then yeah. we’re doing the thing!
South St into Saunders over the course of Dix Park’s reinvention…sure, but will not be inexpensive.
To tangent slightly, some of the best restaurants are in places that you question from the sidewalk, from my experience.
With that said, and please don’t judge me too harshly folks, as someone who has lived in the area for about 12 years, I haven’t been to any of these places that are coming up to the chopping block (CharGrill, Berkeley Cafe, Goodnights, and (potentially) Roast Grill to name a few). My reaction is, “Shit! I need to get there before they’re gone!” (A little too late for some )
I don’t have the sentimental attachment, but I do love experiences, and I need rectify my lack of local experiences.
… definitely making @GucciLittlePig come with me.
Tangent over. Yay Nash Square things!
I got one world for you. Let’s make it 2.
Raleigh Artery
I always think, thank God these awful old buildings are going away and I won’t ever have to get tricked into eating there. Plus it makes Phil sad… So win win.
(I kid.)
Also saw this just now. See, I’m not completely rotten!
Next meetup at The Berkeley?
Back porch meet up
that would be great. I would love an opportunity to go there. I would still like to propose an off the books meetup this month to honor Raleigh’s oldest craft brewery at Big Boss
Let’s get some longtime contributors who never come to meetups!
Jake, Phil, Yimby, Boltman, oakcityyimby c’mon! I would love to see you guys in person and have a laugh over our downtown vision differences!
And anyone else I can’t think of in my random recall!
Backstage at Berkeley!!!
Fave place in Raleigh. Probably the most real you’ll get. Monday BINGO is great!
N
You had me at $3 drafts
Well cities evolve, maybe they’ll keep it and build around it.
Here it is for the Aug 16 council meeting. Will probably just set a public hearing date so sign up to speak if you want to say anything public.

I have zero faith in that
I’ve never signed up to speak at any CC meeting - can anyone point me in the right direction? I’m interested in voicing support for approving rezoning ON CONDITION of preserving the Berkeley building and the entire Depot building(s) [or at least the facade]
You’re peeing in the wind trying that.
I don’t think there should be any real chance to speak specifically on these cases at that meeting. They’ll just set the public hearing dates. You would most likely need to wait until those meetings to voice your concern. Although you could always just speak during the public comment period at the beginning of the meeting even though there won’t be any action on it.
Link to speak during public comment on Aug 16: Public Comment Period - Sign Up to Speak
At the start of every meeting, citizens have the right to come and speak about anything that they want. For a good while (and possibly continuing to this day), abortion opponents have gone up to the lectern and spoken for their allotted time each. I suppose that you can get up and speak in support of preserving specific buildings in Raleigh at each and every council meeting. That said, I think that it would be more effective if your comments were put into context that didn’t paint yourself as a NIMBY or among the group of people who resist all change in the city. That will likely get you ignored.
I’ve had some “interesting” conversations back there.
Hearing the phrase “sanctuary city for fetuses” caught me off guard at my first meeting.
Ah yes, the “open mic night” portion of the meetings. If you’ve ever seen Parks and Rec….
Reminds me of What HL Mencken said: “Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and they deserve to get it good and hard.”
