Let’s get back on topic.
It actually just hit me that WTVD has had a downtown location on Fayetteville Street since re-opening in 2007. Let’s share more of their articles rather than their competitors.
Actually it opened in 05’ before that it was in that building I think 12 story on Fayetteville.
oh! Weren’t they in the Capital Club building well before that? Sounds like they are the downtown people.
Yea as a bureau but for live shots not for full newscasts. 2005 studio at first there was no newscast then the noon report was the only one to broadcast in 2007 I think maybe 2009 morning anchors would have to drive from Durham to Raleigh for the noon. When it was renovated in 2011, the 4pm newscast was added the renovated it for that newscast debut. Then If my memory serves me right the Since Frances Scott (who I saw in a commercial in Austin, TX a few weeks ago) did the 4 I believe she’d still did the 5pm but since she’s is stuck in Raleigh, Tisha would broadcast there for the 5 since they were a pair though I think Steve by default took over the 5pm in 2011, and returned that show to Durham. Chris Hohmann would do the 4, 5, and 6 then drive to Durham for the 11pm. Then the 4pm anchors would do the 5:30 with Steve from Durham, he didn’t last long then on that newscast sometimes during holidays events broadcast were done from Raleigh like First Night. Still sometimes the Durham studio was used by 4pm team for breaking news and severe weather. I believe in 2017 they tore down a wall because the 4P.M. Became #1 in the market (it still is), and also at the time still the only one until 2016, they expanded the newsroom to a whole block so more than 2 shows could be produced. 2018 the set was redone the set and the morning show moved into the Raleigh set so now the Noon, 4pm, and 5:30 was there. Then by 2021 they moved all newscasts downtown they very seldomly use Durham anymore really cause they set there is 13 years old with very few updates. Now Durham studios is just offices for the business side of the station. However sports still done from a corner of the Durham set.
Related to this thread, anyone have an opinion on if the Triangle Business Journal is worth a subscription? Noticed they have a Black Friday deal for $60 for a year, which isn’t too terrible.
Daniel, as a business owner of 20 years I find it critical in local business activities. It is essentially a great knowledge base of information.
Breaking news, DOJ has just opened an investigation on Don J. Trump. A source has reported that he farted. We got him now!
They have like 1 or 2 stories a week that I find interesting, a bunch of content from other cities that means nothing to me, and a number of stories about our area that also means nothing to me. I personally am fine stopping their page from loading before the paywall pops up to read that 1 article a couple days before it’s on every other news site. That being said, I’ve certainly spent more money on less important things than supporting journalism, so go for it if you’d like!
I have a subscription through work and read TBJ daily. I think it is well done. It isn’t a good “breaking news” source, but it has very solid coverage of business news in the Triangle.
Appreciate the responses! I will probably go ahead and give it a try.
more and more vehicles are going hybrid or electric…emissions are going down as i understand it, 'the vastly more car on the road now emit far less than some decades ago.
Unfortunately, emissions continue to rise despite decades of warning. According to the latest report from the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, emissions rose once again in 2022 despite apocalyptic warning.
Warming is on track to surpass 2.5⁰c by 2100, far above the Paris Climate Agreement’s 1.5⁰c goal. Transportation and food production/livestock remain the largest contributors.
Off topic, but had to chime in since this is something I’m passionate about.
I’m into it also but yes, it’s off-topic for this forum.
I know this thread’s meant for local news, but I think this humanity-wide piece of news clearly has dire local impacts, too, as I think it could be a big contributor to how outlets like WRAL are stretched thin to the point that they often write low-quality articles: even among people aged 16-21, only 43% of survey respondents thought that they were data-literate.
Put another way, nearly 3 in 5 people of that age range said that they didn’t know how to read/understand data and statistics. If the last two sentences didn’t sound to you like I just repeated myself, you might be belong in the latter crowd.
Anyone else notice the accuracy and thoroughness of TBJ’s local development coverage has taken a nosedive in recent months? The CASA purchase of Grosvenor Gardens was one, with no mention of how the small affordable housing non-profit obtained the $12 million. A lot of, “they weren’t immediately available for comment”-s on stories that weren’t really new/breaking or easily filled-in by local government agendas, social media announcements or basic google searches.
I sent TBJ three corrections in 2022. They should hire this community to fact-check development stories before publication.
Btw I did reply to their Tweet on this article:
The News & Observer is currently running a reader poll regarding the sale of liquor in grocery stores. Current poll is showing about 83% in favor of relaxing state liquor laws. I know this is a pretty minor thing, but I’ve always hated the way North Carolina handles alcohol sales, so anything that generates buzz on this subject is good in my book. Ha! I feel like weed will be legal before you can buy your whiskey at the Teeter…!
