Does anyone else feel like North Hills looks closer to downtown than downtown looks from North Hills??? It’s just an odd phenomenon I’ve noticed.
That’s actually the case. Since NH is of course north of downtown, the circumference of the Earth is relatively smaller where NH is, thus Earth is spinning slower there, relative to downtown, which means that, from the perspective downtown, NH space-time is “smaller”, and thus appears closer, whereas the opposite is true looking from NH to downtown, space-time is expanded from that view due to the increased velocity relative to you. This is basically what Einstein’s theory of special relativity proved.
I’ve not seen downtown from NH yet. I will put that on my list to do.
I do know that NH looked much closer to DT than the photos usually suggest.
Perhaps it has something to do with the height variations of DTR vs NH?
In the grand scheme of the entire earth, does 3 miles make that much of a difference?
WOW great photo, thank you!
Sadly, not that much change when you think of or compared to 90years…
Interestingly… look how far away the performing arts center looks from the rest of DTR. Kinda reminds me of the gap between DTS and DTR…
For the record, I would much prefer all those development dollars going into downtown proper, but I wasn’t consulted beforehand.
I thought the earth was flat.
Nah I just basically made that up. I mean sure your velocity relative to someone else does change your space time compared to them but I think you have to be going more than 80% the speed of light before that difference becomes perceptible to humans.
SEE WHAT I MEAN??? Downtown looks SO MUCH further away than N. Hills does from Downtown.
If I go back to my photo of Midtown taken from my condo on the north end of downtown, I don’t perceive a difference in distance.
OK! This angle definitely makes the distance seem as real as it is. Perhaps changes up depending on camera/lens used??
It’s just an iPhone without any zoom.
The OTB air isn’t as healthy and is known to cause dizziness and depth perception issues. Don’t spend to much time away from downtown, my friend.
It’s all that exhaust from all those cars!
