Pictures and Videos of Downtown Raleigh

I actually tried to do an aerial video months ago and was disappointed with the quality. The air was hazy from pollen and rain and it turned out too blurry to post. Figured I’d come back again with clearer skies. Ultimately decided to wait for the municipal building to top out first and spend some time honing my night shooting skills. Still trying to optimize that.

Got this shot from that attempt though:

Very pleased to have a new job downtown where I get a nice view. Shame we don’t have an angle toward actual downtown from 621 Hillsborough though.

Happy Independence Day Raleigh!

Like Wiley Wonka there is a golden bus in the mix. A 50th anniversary special of some sort. Very eye catching and not something I would have believed had I not seen it myself.

Char-Grill lot fantasy: A 5-7 story residential building with the Char-Grill closer to the street along with the sign.

I think something like that would do wonders for the small Hillsborough St. portion of Glenwood S.

  1. You keep the building and enhance the sidewalk experience
  2. You add a semi-permanent customer base right behind the restaurant :man_shrugging:t4:

But soon (I hope) you will have a view of the 35-story residential tower on Glenwood!

Keep an eye out for the next City Nerd video. We’re at the top of the ranking.

Does that mean we have the city with the most nerds?

I would not be surprised if a survey comes out and that we somehow make that list lol

Hmmm…is the ranking a good one or a bad one? There are a lot of things about Raleigh that don’t align with CityNerd. In particular, our city isn’t walkable, and our transit is weak at best.

I’m being vague for some added suspense but I’ll be interested in peoples reactions.

“Cities with the most multimillion dollar public studies that are then ignored or abandoned in the end, anyway” ???

…and Surveys, don’t forget about all of the thousands of surveys just to say, “were listening”.

For those who haven’t watched the video, the list is “share of 25th percentile income required to afford 1000 sqft of a 25th percentile rental”. Raleigh is the lowest of the cities he looked at, at a 25th percentile income of $46,604 and 25th % rent of $1,187, so 31%. The rest of North Carolina also does pretty well on this metric, anyone have any theories?

‘North Carolina, I guess this is your week’

I don’t want to nerd out, but I hope Leo can convince him to come to Raleigh sometime, because I’d love an opportunity to potentially to meet him and hear his input on Raleigh.
