The mural is finished and the N&O did a story this morning. This jack ass apparently came by twice to harass the artist, Luke Buchanan.
The story seems to be behind the pay wall, so I’ll do a short summery. This is part of an artistic floodplain education project to make folks aware of how high the water can get. The mural is the name of storms that have flooded Raleigh spelled in brightly colored square flags. There will be some additional installations along the greenway too. The whole project is being sponsored by The Gang of Three. I think I went to high school with one them, lol.
The personal meaning that @Alek hinted at is mentioned in the story. Buchanan and a friend, Jackson Griffin, went to swimming at Lassiter Mill pond after Fran. They were caught in the undertow. Buchanan was pulled to safety by a neighbor, who tied a hose to his waist and went after them. Griffin was not saved. A sad tale, indeed.
The mural is in the Blue Ridge Rd underpass.
And just a head’s up, the N&O has gone on sale for dirt cheap right after Thanksgiving. I think I paid $10 for the year.

I believe we were discussing the peace Street capital Boulevard overpass art elsewhere but I noticed the Wade Avenue overpass artwork is being installed now.

There’s a new large mural going up next to Crank Arm that will be front and right as you’re going south on Dawson through the Davie intersection.
Interestingly enough, I was behind this couple (guy and girl) at Ace Hardware and had to wait like 10 minutes for them to check out with all of their supplies. I believe she’s from NYC as she said something about her flight from NY. I meant to ask what they were doing but didn’t have a chance. Now I know! I’ll grab a pic later.

Probably doesn’t quite qualify as public art, but there is also a new mural inside crank arm that’s pretty sweet!
