Anyone have pictures of construction?

Any idea the specifics of what Kane wants to do with this spot? I’ve heard it’s set aside for a hotel, but they must have something very specific in mind to let this lot sit there like this so long.

I have a hunch this is set aside for a high-end, possibly high-rise hotel, of a flag not currently seen in these parts.

Folks all this is great and I’m extremely happy hopefully the possibility of a recession will not slow or delay this project,On another note, I hate to be a Debbie Downer and the bearer of Bad News but the rezoning request for the main district for 40 stories is in serious trouble in it’s current request.

Raleigh Developers shiver with the talk of buildings condo’s after the real estate meltdown and recession here from 2008.

Banks shiver on condo financing and developers simply follow the path to more accessible cash…

You are absolutely correct lol.

It is silly to call the area New York in any way. Though I agree we shouldn’t put any 40 floor buildings in North Hills until we already have a few in Downtown.

Well, we are getting quite a few in downtown, and just because it has that zoning, doesn’t mean they will build up to it. They need 40-story zoning just to build 21 stories and works really well for them. North hills only has 1 tower above 20 stories, while Downtown has 7. Sure 7 isn’t a lot, but the 3 under construction now, and the 35 or so proposals/pending construction projects? NH still only has 5 proposals or pending construction.

I’ve always thought a plaza or open space would work well there. But I’m sure they’ll develop it.

Given the presence of these plazas and open spaces, I don’t really think another one is needed so nearby.

Wish they could activate the North buffer somehow with at least trails or something but I’m sure it’s an agreement with the neighborhood.

The left one is a building and parking deck entrances, the St Albans trees are unusable to the general public and basically just function as a buffer to the SFH neighborhood. Midtown Park is a nice space, but I was thinking more along the lines of an urban plaza. Even the other side of north hills doesn’t really have that kind of space.

I agree. I think it will feel a little claustrophobic with another building there, but maybe that just because I’m used to it. I still hope it remains as some sort of open space though.

Hoped these would be in the 35+ range but better than nothing for sure.

Now, I’m still looking for that skywalk or tunnel crossing Six Forks…

That would be 1,000,000x more valuable than whatever insane accommodations the NIMBY objectors have but I guess they’d rather have like 2 more lanes of traffic or something stupid.

I’d just love to see the city restructure the street with separated bike lanes and extended curbs and better crosswalks. Also, the speed limit needs to be reduced to help pedestrians feel safe while crossing the street.

Totally. Here’s the thing…Six Forks and Wake Forest are, in fact, roadways that N/S commuters use for north / south transit and, without alternatives, will continue to be. TONS of folks are out there playing a video game behind the wheel in my experience (often while utilizing their phones in one hand…).
I truly struggle to see how you can create a functional compromise for human-powered locomotion around NHills that feels welcoming ( because of the proximity of North Hills to the Beltline) - without a functional bridge OVER Six Forks. And, Wake Forest is even more unlikely to ever be human-friendly…Zoom Zoom
Also, I thought the Six Forks plan was to include a multi-use path for bikes off roadway but I’ve been disillusioned by how long that process has taken and is still going nowhere fast. I’m not sure I’d ever get on those roads in any bike path that wasn’t protected from a Soccer-Burban at 50+ mph…
Maybe the greenways finally connect a throughway, but I’m not holding my breath

City has been talking about the 6-forks corridor study about as long as I have live here - 10+ years. They approved a plan a few years ago but nothing since.

IMO Kane is missing a big opportunity by not having a pedestrian bridge over 6-forks with his name plastered in it.

It’s 9 lanes of traffic going across. It’s absurd to not link the 2 districts in a more pedestrian friendly way.

I totally agree there is a disconnect between the main district and the other side if Kane did decide to put up a pedestrian bridge he would need NCDOT approval first and no telling how long that would, but All we have is time lol.
