That’s awesome! Viceroy in Durham had been the only cool high-end Indian in the Triangle (that I know of). I love Indian food, and it’s nice to get one on our side of town with a date spot vibe.
That sounds good! I am guessing “high energy ambiance” means loud.
IF Crabtree were to lose the Apple Store, that could very well be the beginning of the end. You don’t have to be an Apple fan to understand the economics of that. A store that has enough foot traffic as a destination store (ppl go to the mall to go to the Apple Store) to generate $50m annually is more than just a store in the mall. You lose that foot traffic and not only does the other ancillary revenue disappear, the lack of those people in the mall impacts the experience. It would be noticeable.
Also, here’s a quick snippet I thought was well put:
Answer to Is the Apple store essential for retail? by Pete Garofalo
I think that’s well put but I think there’s a little bit of a chicken-and-the-egg to be had with the Apple Store and its submarket in a given area. My working theory is that Apple is going to pick what they perceive as the premier retail submarket and the Store’s presence or absence will influence outside perception of that submarket.
So, yes, all that stuff about how consumers think when they spend an hour to drive to the Apple Store all seems correct, but the fact that there’s only ever a few in a given market helps drive those lucky few as “the one with an Apple Store”.
Of course Apple Stores haven’t been around historically long enough to bear this out but I’d be interested to see if Apple stays in Crabtree and what that means for the mall. Is Crabtree the premier retail center compared to newer competitors like North Hills or Fenton? I don’t really care about the answer but I think it would be interesting to see what happened if the answer was “no.”
All I know is that when I was greeted by the member of the Apple team for my Genius appointment, I was asked, 'How are you, today?"
It was an extremely busy Saturday, and we had orbited the back, upper deck to find an open handicapped parking slot for way too long. There were throngs of people milling around Crabtree, and I was being a curmudgeon for having to waste my time with my Mother’s iPhone she had locked herself out of (while having spent the entire evening the night before to try and unlock it).
So, I smiled and said, ‘Not happy to have to be here.’
It wasn’t his fault, so I didn’t take it out on him. I just don’t like having my time trifled with.
But, back to the point, I had to go to Crabtree (which I despise) enduring the drive and the traffic. As I’ve said before, I’m not part of their core demographic, anymore. I get that, and I’ll go back to my cave to shop from Amazon, 511tactical, Kryptek, Kitanica, BestBuy, Dick’s, Cabelas, Williams-Sonoma, and SeidoShop.
I have seen the plans for this and it is awesome!!!
Nice to the growth of Raleigh
The Publix that’s being built near RTP (at Ellis Crossing) has been doing hiring events. Still no official word on when it’s scheduled to open.
The inside of the store looks pretty complete, with shelving, registers, etc. already set up (but not stocked).
I had reached out to ask when the new positions would start but they couldn’t say.
Saw a rumor on reddit that construction setbacks have pushed the expected opening date to February of this year. No idea if that’s accurate or not.
That’s fine, that’s only next month. I assumed it would be like June or something. Thanks for the update (rumor)!
Can we gets some pics
Brier Creek going vertical now? Well if this does get rezoned it does help my case that a transit system should go from RDU to Brier Creek first before hook down to the center of the city.
7910 Skyland Ridge Parkway seeking 17 acres to be rezoned to 20 stories
:
It looks the opening date for RushHour 2 is being pushed back again for the 4th time to January 26th (they blame the town of Morrisville)
On Facebook, on the other hand, a Publix hiring account says it will open in the Spring.
That’s a weird request. Brier Creek north of 70 is not an area where I could see anyone paying a big premium to rent an office or apartment on the 15th floor of something, and the ca. 2008 strip mall doesn’t seem like it’s old enough for redevelopment.
If the city continues to grow and bigger corporations continue to move in then most companies will plan on being closer to the airport so having office/hotel/retail development is a no brainer. Plus cheaper rents than being in the urban core.
Kane and Co. released their ‘State of North Hills 2022’ today. There were a lot of interesting tidbits of info, data, and release dates for upcoming projects in there. I was looking at this picture and I’m struggling to remember them announcing what’s going beside The Eastern in this picture? Speaking of the Eastern, this report claims it’s 60% leased out.
I’m not surprised that it’s taken the Eastern so long to lease. It’s really high in the market. OTOH, The Line went quickly for Kane.
