Not sure to put this here or if there’s a retail thread, but North Hills just scored a lux brand – Veronica Beard. That’s a pretty big get for the area and makes sense for North Hills over something like Southpoint. They have a store in Charlotte at Phillips Place. Other stores are in Nashville, Charleston, and Atlanta, as well as elsewhere in major lux centers across the country.
Don’t get too excited. I think that’s just @OakCityDylan’s stage name when he dresses in drag.

If you watch the video, there’s some renderings of the interior. It’s very…white.
The article doesn’t mention that “walking” hours at CVM were sharply curtailed as of July 22, supposedly because of the renovation. A lot of senior citizens are ticked off.
I can’t say I really remember what Crabtree looks like currently, but the renderings they show do not look materially different, certainly not more “high-end” and not enough to attract any newer/higher-end tenants
You’re being generous …. the “new” renders look exactly the damn same as it is currently lmaoooo
Sorry Crabtree’s thriving. I know that’s really really difficult for people here to accept. As stated previously, they backfill vacancies quickly, there has always been a strong tenant mix, and there’s high foot traffic. Crabtree doesn’t need a $250MM overhaul. These upgrades freshen up the dated interior, and that’s all it really needs.
I’m aware of tenants “moving” to North Hills and Fenton, but again, they backfill quickly and the occupancy rate is still like 95% before these enhancements. They’re doing a lot of things right at Crabtree and y’all hate to see it.
There is also a beautiful greenway that aligns the area. Most residents are unaware of this..
not sure where you’re getting that I’m not rooting for it to succeed…I’m just questioning the aesthetic taste and value add of the proposed renovations. I like Crabtree - if I need a mall or department store I’m going there over anything else local.
Yo…. do you work for Crabtree Valley Mall?? LOL tone it down man, nobody is on here “hating” Crabtree’s success… at all. Like…. huh??? ![]()
Yeah you are right, reading back no one was that negative. I read between the lines and wasn’t in the mood for Crabtree hate today. This thread devolves into Crabtree/mall hate sometimes.
I think the upgrades are exactly what it needs and they seem cost effective and relatively quick to execute. They’re going for bang for their buck, and you love to see the new ownership group investing already.
Please cease and desist posting positively about Crabtree as this is a DTR forum

Hahaha well played sir.
Is it too late for them to include a glenwood streetscape and dedicated bus lanes from the mall to glenwood south?![]()
I live near the mall and have done so for 5 years. I want the mall to thrive as I get to enjoy it every now and then. I’m interested to see what entertainment concepts there are. I mainly shop at Crabtree for clothes. Outside of that, there really isn’t much that draws me to the mall. I’ll stop by sometimes to pick up some food from the food court, but I would really like some other options for restaurants/bars.
It’s interesting because in downtown Raleigh, I want to see more shopping from stores that are considered chains (national brands), but at the mall I want less chain restaurants.
There was a time when I hated malls like Crabtree but that was 20 years ago. They all died and got replaced with worse things (success stories like North Hills are a rare exception). So now I have an appreciation and a bit of nostalgia for what was lost. I think many people in my generation feel the same way.
Crabtree is in a bit of a situation where it’s too hemmed in to make any radical improvements so it’s just gonna be what it is. I think most of us want it to succeed though.
The appeal of climate controlled comfort is often underrated.
My favorite thing in Dallas was a huge mall with an ice skating rink in it. It was a heavenly refuge from the Texas heat.
Wait - you are the guy who had a cow when people weren’t lockstep in opinion with Downtown stadium proposals YET YOU DEFEND THE MALL??? Why must we all tip toe around your manic convictions?
“Stop talking about the stadium anywhere other than Downtown South!!!” ![]()
“Don’t talk bad about Crabtree Mall!!!” ![]()
Guy has a lot of emotionally charged demands for what is supposed to be a friendly, nonchalant discussion forum.
