540 started with the stretch between I40 and US70 and then moved eastward from there.
If I remember correctly, the developers of TTC were swayed by the greater catch basin of potential shoppers that were largely west of its location from North Ridge toward the north with all of the upscale neighborhoods north of 540 to Falls Lake.
I don’t think that they properly considered the impact of its exact location NOT being upscale. While I know that there would have been issues with the watershed, had it been able to be built either at the intersection with Falls of Neuse or Six Forks, I think that the outcome of its success would have been much different.
I searched around a bit and I don’t know if the outcome of this was ever shared here – the rezoning passed last year.
Do we know what the plan is here? Anyone have the scoop / talk to any s?
The 18-acre parcel below was rezoned for 20 stories. It seems like if they could make a good pedestrian connection across 440 here the entire rest of the Computer+Browning+Merton+Barrett office park area could be put to better use
There’s a proposal for a multimodel bridge near here as part of the Midtown plan (?) (blue line), but definitely not ideal for accessing this particular area. I wonder if extending Hardimont over 440 (red line) could be cconsidered instead. Seems like that would be a better placement but maybe there are bigger issues with putting it there and I think the blue line is supposed to be part of the greenway expansion.
I think the more connections from NH East/NH ID to the future NH ITB (let’s be real, it WILL happen, this land is just the first domino to a 100% total densification of this old office park) the better. Bring on the cranes!!
Totally agree, I think it would be great, especially as a resident on the north side of 440. I just question whether the City would ever be willing to fund two bridges relatively close to each other.
It would most likely need to be requested and partially funded by the developer of the area in yellow. The bridge in blue is more likely to be built given the fact that it’s already in the design phase.
I’m happy to see they were able to fill the Forever 21 spot (Toys R US). I was really wondering what would go in. It seemed like it had way less inventory than what I remember seeing at old Toys R US stores, but maybe that’s a good thing. I’m hoping they do well.
Altar’d State just left Crabtree for North Hills. The Toys ‘R’ Us is a seasonal store, although I suppose it could be made permanent if it’s a smashing success. Crabtree has also added at least one seasonal Christmas store. Splash, a cosmetics store, recently opened. But a number of vacancies remain, such as the former Williams Sonoma that has been empty for years and the former Bailey’s.
No indication yet of any of the renovations announced by the new owner-operator.
I noticed some construction fencing up along Wake Forest Road in front of the North Raleigh Hilton. Didn’t have time to grab a pic. Anyone got info on what’s coming?
One of several banks teetering on being acquired by a larger bank. Guess building a de novo branch in one of the fastest growing markets in the US will make them more attractive to a buyer.
