I went to the new Standard a couple weeks ago and followed all the appropriate signs for Free Parking. It wasn’t until several days later when I received a $35 parking ticket in the mail because I failed to scan the QR code.
Yes, ultimately I’m the one to blame, but I will never return. After talking to several people that’s also happened to, they feel the same way.
My daughter recently got the same letter in the mail. They already scan your license plate coming in and going out. A far more reasonable approach would be to mail you a statement only if you exceed the 2 hrs, and only for the going parking rate that exceeds the 2 hours.
This whole thing of having to scan a QR code to register, or they automatically send you a ticket when you when you either forget, or just don’t see the signs, it just seems like a sleazy money grab and does not encourage customers to come back.
Seems like the main issue was the free parking changing from 3 to 2 hours without notice and updated signage. Also people have properly entered their information as the sign tells them, and still get fined.
I am happily content with just parking in the decks versus searching for street parking. Although I’m completely against it being in any of the decks. Guess Kane will have to FAFO.
I went to the new standard this weekend. Used the QR code to book two hour free parking. When my parking was almost up I got a text asking if I wanted to extend, which I did for 3 more hours for $3.
We’ve parked in the NHID many times and just scanned the code that is literally everywhere including on the elevator doors and in the several businesses we visited. That being said, it would be a lot easier to just have unlimited free parking in the decks of a shopping area than all of this nonsense. God forbid I want to park my car and walk around and hang out, and not keep moving my car every 2 hours to a new deck. I really can’t imagine people parking for days at a time or clogging the decks is an issue there; I’ve literally never had trouble parking in any deck in North Hills in 15 years.
Funny you mention this. My partner was going to Publix in Smoky Hollow for groceries but had to run another errand before picking up perishables. He parked in the Publix deck, did his other errand elsewhere in Smoky Hollow, got groceries, and came back to a boot on his car.
These parking situations are predatory.
And people complain about regular downtown parking.
It happened to me too, and I won’t be returning. To be clear, it’s fine for them to enforce parking times - and I think they should - but to make it unnecessarily cumbersome is ridiculous. What if someone doesn’t have their phone, or if it’s an older person who doesn’t know how to use it?
At least the two-hour free parking downtown is easy.
That’s my complaint. If they have all this technology taking pictures of me entering and leaving the parking deck with timestamps. Then they know damn well exactly how long I was there (45 minutes). Had I stayed more than 2 hours, sure send me a ticket.
And like you mentioned I wasn’t looking around the parking deck in search of a stupid QR code while I’m trying to keep my 3-year-old son from darting off into traffic.
Also, the company was located in Denver, who arranged that agreement? I’m sure North Hills takes home some percentage of this.
Was it Parking Revenue Recovery Services? They’re notorious in Denver for predatory practices. I stayed 10 minutes too long in one of their lots and got a ticket in the mail for $92. For a lot that costs $5/hr
which is EXACTLY why they SHOULD add more retail! It’s always a “chicken or the egg” scenario, and far too often I see the coping of “well, there’s plenty of retail down the street” and “not every stretch of sidewalk needs retail” blah blah blah… MF are we trying to grow into a large city or are we not??? LFGoooooooooooo!!! (none of that directed at you btw - just speaking in general lol)
