Raleigh-area Mall / RTP Redevelopments

I did not realize woke originated specifically from the civil rights and political struggles within the context of African-American activism. In that case, it was the wrong word to use.

To clarify the point:

This North Hills infill project has been the target of scrutiny from affordable housing and low income resident advocates, making the argument that because this missing middle development is luxury product at a price point unaffordable at 100% AMI, let alone for any buyer below median income, it must mean that the missing middle rules do not help housing affordability at all and should be scrutinized if not repealed. Ignoring the fact that this is in one of the most highly gentrified zip codes in the state of NC, and ignoring that this proposed development creates more ownership opportunities in a highly sought after community, lowering pressure on nearby tear-down properties to sell and flip into more luxury units. And ignoring the fact that these price points are lower than the typical SFH tear down and rebuild.

The overarching point is that the ever-impossible to reach goal of ā€œa perfect housing projectā€ is the enemy of progress.

I remember when the word ā€˜wokeā€™ was associated with consciousness and spirituality. Those days are long gone smh. And donā€™t get me started on the word ā€˜basedā€™ā€¦someone owes Lil B a check

Itā€™s just the newest conservative shorthand for ā€œthings I donā€™t likeā€. It replaced the word ā€œsocialistā€, which in the conservative vernacular was synonymous with the word ā€œbadā€, and never used coherently. E.g. ā€œBarack Obama is a socialistā€ or ā€œupzoning is socialismā€ or ā€œthese pancakes are socialistā€.

When the term woke really hit the mainstream being woke meant that you were politically or socially involved but maybe at risk of being kinda annoying about it. Now every other Hannity guest has convinced themselves that itā€™s some kind of discrete belief system. Embarrassing!

Ok Iā€™ll stop before Leo gives me the boot

North Hillsā€™ main district expansion includes award-winning restaurant (wral.com)

Sounds decent - not just another salad/bowl place because it has entrees and other stuff, and with cocktails.

Looks like this might be jab at The Exchange developersā€¦ I remember seeing a press release saying that the Exchange developers said NH was for shopping and they wanted to be known for world renown restaurants lol

Seems like Kane Sr. now really loves 5-over-1(2) now. If these get built North Hills will look like that area in Durham around DPAC.

Well except for any of the fun activities like sports but that a Raleigh problem in general.

I canā€™t see the article Is this something new or is this for 600 St Alban that was announced awhile ago and already working through permits, etc.

I believe 2 different projects, but these are all starting to morph into 1 until they start numbering the Hardimont Drive extension addresses. From the article:

The third phase will now include a 6-story residential building along the future extension of Hardimont Drive and south of St. Albans Drive. The building is called Tributary and is named for the adjacent creek that is a tributary to Crabtree Creek

Kane Realty has started construction on St. Albans Lofts, a 6-story residential building on the corner of St. Albans Drive and the Hardimont Drive extension. The company announced the project in 2022.

I mean, it makes sense for now while the office market is ice cold. The important part is that this will bring in a ton of residents to patronize the businesses nearby, as well as create a connection between North Hills and Midtown Exchange.

They sure have. Theyā€™ve cleared another couple of acres of trees for it. Iā€™m always impatient for projects to move forward, and I feel like nothing major has happened on this site but for adding floors to the office building so Iā€™m glad to see movement on the project, but feel bad for the deers who live there and now have to move into the yards of NH homes.

I have a feeling there arenā€™t too many deer in that tiny patch of forest.

There are. There are whole families of them all over this area that have been pushed into the open. Iā€™m in NH on the other side of Six Forks around Brooks Elementary and see them all the time, sometimes running in the middle of the street. Recently saw a little fawn that looked alone, in a panic trying to navigate between two new house construction sites across the street from each other. Poor guy.

There are, but fewer and fewer obviously. I live nearby backed up to a creek and there are more deer roaming around in my yard every year.

Maybe the next North Hills restaurant to open will be venison themed. Too soon?

Mmmmm venison.

Deer are up there with coyotes as animals that thrive in the suburbs, and will continue to terrorize backyards and car windshields across America, Iā€™m not particularly worried about them
