I’ve read a lot of criticisms about the area, and west of Six Forks does deserve the criticisms. However, I’m more than pleased with the setup and feel of the recent developments east of Six Forks.
I just wish there were some condos being announced with all these developments.
The two-story food hall is roughly the size of Morgan St. Food Hall and is being designed by Clearscapes (Transfer Co., Union Station, Brewery Bhavana, Saxapahaw River Mill/Ballroom, much more). They should bring some texture and authenticity beyond what we’d normally expect of North Hills. Exciting.
Looking forward to this. This is less then a 1/4 mile from my house.
Two phrases caught my eyes - “micro-retail” spaces, something a number of folks on this wonderful board have been advocating for DTR for a long while. Good to see those. My thought is micro-spaces will be critical to restarting a large number of small businesses after the economic disaster of the pandemic.
The other phrase? Biergarten. Yeah! More out door beer drinking places, please!!
If they keep the trees, it would be kinda cool to incorporate a high-ropes course in the canopy above the creek. String lights for nights too?
Where are the ewoks?
Folks, Raleigh got its waterfront at long last
No one doing push-ups, but I like this guy.
I really think someone should extend Hardimont Rd over beltway to link with Computer Drive. Also be nice to see those old 1 and 2 story buildings across beltway redeveloped into high-rise ones.
And then bury that portion of 440 in tunnels under buildings!
Back to the topic of a footbridge over Six Forks, instead of a utilitarian, non-descript bridge, we need to incorporate something like the BP Pedestrian Bridge in Chicago that connects Millenium and Maggie Daley parks. It is a winding footbridge that crosses Michigan Avenue. Some pics below:

Granted, we don’t have enough space for a bridge of that size, but it’s at least something we can look to for inspiration. The only problem is finding somewhere to put it. I propose something as follows:
Here is a plain overview. I think at least 2 bridges should go in, one in the north and one in the south. This is the southern bridge. I propose it wind from behind the lot in front of Allscripts, cross over Six Forks and over the intersection of the ramps for 440. From there, it is a bit more complicated. Here is my design:
Following the path in the overview, I propose to get rid of the road segment between the north state bank parking entrance and the southern entrance that goes behind the shopping area, seen in the bottom of the photo. The path should decline into the parking lot in front of the BoA, settling there and winding through a small park between the road, north state parking lot, and the little grassy area in front of the curve of the access road. There should still be access to the BoA, so maybe a small path or concrete area of sorts could connect the path to the entrance. Once the path reaches the entrance to north state bank parking, it should end and it will connect right onto the main entrance of the western section of NH. I hope this makes sense.
The parking garage on frontage road is so ugly driving down 440. I wish they did something to make it look better.
get air-rights from state. like 5th av in NY over train tracks and build buildings over beltway.
About 1/2 mile from mine! Stoked.
It also looks like they plan to increase the water flow of big branch creek about 10-fold, per the renderings. The his creek runs behind my house about a 1/2 mile from there and I can say it only looks that high after a couple days of heavy rain, and then it’s brown.
Looking again at the map that’s not big branch. Something man made?
Imagine this was all in DTR. I’m sure the city would feel way larger. This is the downside of spreading the development around. I do live in North Raleigh and therefore will not complain lol.
Side note: I went for a walk the other day and noticed nothing has happened here on Century Drive. Development dead? Do we have a thread for that? The building next to Target on Hillsborough St seems dead. Clairmont at Crabtree doesn’t seem to have gotten much action either. The old buildings are demolished but that’s about it.
