Raleigh Elections and Council Overall

Is this satire? That’s clearly not Mark Robinson. Pretty sure that’s the mayor of Durham.

Definitely be concerned but not overly concerned about this. Reeves will do well with older white “progressives” in neighborhoods like Oakwood but Jonathan’s name will be on every major slate card being handed out at voting sites, and that’s what will ultimately carry the day in a presidential election year.

The whole Cooper/Biden/Trump/Kamala/Robinson vibe is just awful.

Lots of extremely different vibes in that list.

The gentleman on the right is indeed Durham Mayor Leonardo Williams. There’s only one thing, and I mean one thing, he has in common with Mark Robinson, and that one thing doesn’t mean that they look in any way alike. Seriously, dude, WTF.

To say the very least, for sure.

I sat in on part of the Wade/Hillsborough CAC at-large candidate forum last night. I will be voting for Forte and Melton. The others candidates were either more livable Raleigh, single issue or inexperienced. I appreciate that we have interest in citizens running for our City elections. But for me there is a clear choice for Melton and Forte. We have momentum to move Raleigh in a positive direction and I want to see that continue.

Indyweek made endorsements just now: The INDY's 2024 general election endorsements
A cliffs notes summary:

They help clarify the muddy water of the crowded Mayor slot pretty well. The one new thing I learned was that Fitts wants to put a moratorium on new parks. (WTF??) And we’ve noted before how Myrick is a mirror of Liveable Raleigh. Therefore, Cowell really does seem the best choice IMHO.

They endorse of course our urban champion in at-large, Melton, with Forte along too. Branch in C, which is I think is still the best. Along with Patton in B.

The big win: Most folks in here will be very happy they chose Silver over Black—and they make a good case for him. :tada:

I think several of us in this group will be overall disappointed in District E (they pick Jones), though honestly they give good reasons why either candidate is good. (I still say I’d choose Cerqueira if I lived in that District.) I guess if all their other endorsements all win, it’d still be a good pro-urban majority. :man_shrugging:

All good endorsements EXCEPT WHY THE F*** ARE THEY STILL PUSHING CHRISTINA JONES :rage: - Will give credit when due, however:

She led the Great Raleigh Cleanup initiative, which sees homeless residents paid a living wage to beautify the city.

I didn’t realize she was so actively involved in that recent update, which is one that I fully support and love. So she’s not terrible. Just not the best.

She needs to be head of a committee, not on the governing body for the whole city.

I will say, as a district C resident, it’s notable how many candidates are lukewarm or cold on BRT. Even as a supporter I can kinda sympathize. Either things are going to be a total mess, or New Bern is going to change a ton. It’s tough to claim to represent residents and then champion decisions which may force them to not be residents anymore.

I still support the project, will vote to that end, but can’t help but think that’s cause I have the luxury of not being at all threatened by it. Lots of my neighbors evidently feel differently.

Tell your neighbors to settle down. Its just a bus route with some extra paint.

UGH. You-know-who just put out an uninformed hit piece against Melton & Branch regarding the Red Hat decision: Red Hat – are Councilors performing their liaison duties? | Livable Raleigh
And of course they timed it right as the election has started. :rage:

Well honestly, the ones who are upset about South Street are the ones who are upset about South Street. They are also the ones who are looking for someone to blame. They were going to blame current Council members who voted in favor of the project anyway. Thus Jones’ “NO” vote. I would hope that this won’t hurt Melton and Branch terribly and that this percentage of the negative blow back was already baked in.

Personally I would think they gained more votes by being progressive on the Red Hat and the Convention Center.

Just Livable “NIMBY” Raleigh during their typical thing to make Raleigh Livable for only a select few residents that want Raleigh to stay like it was 40 years ago.

Unlike the Indy, it appears N&O overlooks Ollison’s anti-BRT stance. Hrmmm.
