Saw this from Indy Week today that two planning commission members were replaced at the most recent city council meeting.
Reeves Peeler and La Tanta McCrimmon were replaced by Mark Shelburne and Nick Neptune (each nominated by Mayor Janet Cowell). McCrimmon sounds like they didn’t show up to a majority of the meetings. Lots of discussion around what Peeler brought to the planning commission from an affordable housing knowledge perspective, but the headline should have been that he voted against closing South St.
I’m pretty sure that’s the guy who was against everything and was arguing in Instagram comments with people. Seemed like a jerk and not someone we need there, so I see this as a positive.
I know nothing about Nick Neptune but that’s a great name! And if Dylan and Jake like him, that’s enough for me.
Yea, Nick should do really well. He did solid things with Transfer also. Glad he replaced others with lofty career political aspirations and agendas. That was getting old.
Sometimes these people exists in their own echo chamber.
“I’ve never gotten negative feedback”
-Yes you have, publicly on social media and in person.
too many reasons to list in an IG comment, but first because Raleigh’s Comprehensive Plan - which is designed over many decades to build both a dense and sustainable city, and which we spend tens of millions of dollars each year to build in accordance with, recommends a max of 12 stories here. And because going to 30 stories here ensures the housing would be far less affordable than 12 stories.
The guy would rather have a 5-over-1 than a 30-story building that takes full advantage of the space. He’s more interested in making individual units more affordable than making housing across the board more affordable.
At bare minimum, a 12 story building won’t be 5over1 construction, so we can breathe a sigh of relief for that.
That said, I got Trojan Horse vibes from day 1 with him: NIMBY cynicism wrapped in virture.
lol he very publicly touched a live wire that almost cratered the City’s amphitheater plans and consequently cratered his campaign for council. Trying to pull the “I’ve done nothing wrong!” afterwards just illustrates the point.
Curious how much it cost just for the planning and design. Also, did they actually purchase any properties (buyouts) for the ROW and what will the city do with them?
Nothing new. They’ve been through two attempts to improve traffic at the Glenwood/Creedmoor/CVM/LeadMine/Blue Ridge/440 mess. Both projects were dropped as unaffordable after spending money on engineering studies.
This is absurdly stupid, how does 1 mile of roadwork and real-estate cost go up 67% in 1 year?
Home prices as well as construction cost have been coming down lately especially locally.
It’s easier to blame others or forces outside of your control, than just tackling the problem or having self-reflection.
Just admit it, you took WAY too long to pull the trigger. This was 1 mile of roadway construction, and it took how many years to reach this conclusion? This is pathetic.
But let’s focus on the important stuff, like bike lanes somewhere near 540.
