They better use that money for the pedestrian bridge over 440.
They’re fully funding the design of the bridge with a portion of these funds.
The bridge over 440 in midtown between 6-forks and WF rd?
Clark Rinehart is running for one of the at-large seats. I’ve known Clark from a few past initiatives and I’m interested to see what he thinks he can bring to council. I think we would be interested to hear him out.
In case you’re not following, the council filing period ends sometime in December so I anticipate we’ll be seeing people announcing that they’re running for council over the next few weeks.
Remember that we may have a primary in March which will give us our final candidates to elect in November 2026.
Filing begins Dec 1 and ends Dec 19, he is running for Mr Melton’s seat, who is leaving the city council to run for a county commissioner seat.
Rinehart’s announcement got posted on reddit yesterday and some people were weirdly and strongly against him, and seemed to be mostly inaccurate. It was kind of odd
I don’t know the guy at all but I’ll listen to what he’s got to say.
All those Reddit comments hating on him were either “he’s just pro-developer, pro-real estate!!!” (read: pro-growth) and one was mad that he’s only lived here for a couple of years (read: adopted Raleigh as his home and wants to improve it). I can’t really hate either aspect, nor can I even verify them, tbf
All I CAN say is… I’m going to miss Melton on the Council, full-stop. County commissioner is cool, but I just hope someday after Janet’s tenure is over, he runs for Mayor.
Leo’s endorsement is good enough for me. I trust him implicitly with stuff like this. But go figure, some loud people on the Internet are mad about something.
I do hope Melton runs for mayor, but I’m also happy with Janet Cowell. I find her pretty impressive in a low-key way.
I don’t know that I’d say he has Leo’s endorsement just yet. I read that we should hear him out and see where he stands.
I’m waiting for Leo’s endorsement. Him or IndyWeek. ![]()
Another perspective from me, I was at a fundraising event for Mitchell Silver earlier this month and there was very good energy there. I’ll be very interested to see if a decent challenger emerges for District A. I’d like to see him stay for another term.
Well, the folks that likely want him gone aren’t living in his district, so there’s that.
Spotted another announcement. Sana Siddiqui has announced that she is running for a at-large seat. Admittedly, I follow her on Instagram but don’t know her. More here: https://www.sana4raleigh.com/
Keep the candidate updates flowing if you hear of any announcements out there
Cameron from The Bike Library sent this out today: https://www.cameronforcouncil.org/
He’s running for one of the at-large seats.
Two days of filing left: Are we gonna have another year where everyone tries to run for the At-Large seats making it a crowded field—while the district seats go mostly unopposed? So far Patton and Harrison are unopposed and Jone’s only challenger is (I think) a Republican. Maybe some last minute filing…..TBD?
It’s kinda weird to me why everyone clamors for the at-large races when a District seat means you only need to campaign in 1/5th of the city yet you still have as much “voting power” once you’re on the council. ![]()
If Harrison runs unopposed, then I suppose her presumed strategy of continuing appeasement of Glenwood/Brooklyn worked.
It looks like an uneventful election EXCEPT for the at-large seats.
I think everyone is gonna keep there seats except for that one at-large seat. I kinda like this current council.
He has a shot at winning… he should make his BRT work the center of his campaign.
I still think elections for city council should go back to odd number years, and elections should be partisan again.
I disagree, the odd-year elections had crap for turnout. Even years is higher turnout, less chance for a wingnut person to get elected. Much better results for Raleigh.
