I’m actually ok with Dickie. I don’t like how he handled the scooter issue, he’s not he only one to blame as others didn’t stand up to his unreasonable restrictions on the scooters. However, he’s handled the civic campus issue well, in my opinion, and seems sound on development. He’s not blazing any trails here when it comes to transit but he also seems cool-headed on neighborhood issues. I feel like he’s someone that you can work with.
Yes I did. Thank you very much. She is very much out is her element on am matters.
Aren’t there several others who have declared they’re running for a city council seat?
Olen Watson, Robbie Rickards, James Bledsoe, others?
Certainly. I added a current members list. If they have some kind of web presence, I can keep maintaining that list with newcomers as well.
Here’s the thing about Dickie - you never hear anything good or bad about him…it’s almost like he’s afraid to stick his neck out for anything…(besides scooters which he was abnormally passionate about)
Not sure how I missed this a few weeks ago, but the pettiness involved on both sides is childish.
I really hope we get in someone who is pro urbanization and pro downtown development, I can’t vote, I’m too young, but I personally don’t care if they are a Democrat or Republican or an Independent or anything else, as long as they are for developing our city to help make us a world class city!
Childish is right. Breathe deep. Breathe deep.
For what it’s worth, I did briefly hear some folks at the Convention Center last night having a serious discussion about who will be running for Council this fall . . .
He seemed very comfortable being against ADU’s.
Was Thompson adamantly against ADUs? My perception was that he wasn’t convinced, took the safer bet, and just went along with the others who were very against them. I consider that a difference. What do you think?
Where did you read that Stewart will be running? In today’s N&O article, she’s listed as not interested in the mayoral opening.
In other news, attorney Charles Francis, who ran in 2017, will be running for the job again.
So, she is running for re-election for her at-large seat and not for Mayor?
Any idea of his views on DTR?
“He has repeatedly referred to the city’s plans for a consolidated municipal campus as the “Taj Mahal City Hall” and said the $165 million — the estimated cost of the project — should go elsewhere.”
“McFarlane wants to build a new $165 million City Hall “just so she and City Council members can have nicer offices,” as challenger Charles Francis posted on his Facebook page.”
I do not live in Raleigh right now (but think of it as home) will be interesting to see who else runs. I would be willing to contribute to someone that want’s to make Raleigh into a great city not take it down a socialism type path.
Francis should be called out about his criticisms of the new city hall. Of course it’ll be nicer cause it’s new. It’ll actually save the city money in the long run versus continuing to repair and maintain the current buildings. (or continue leasing office space elsewhere)
At the same time, I bet he just feels that that kind of money is needed elsewhere and a case for that can be made without gutting the new municipal campus.
Anna Johnson at the N&O has all your questions answered! The short version is that we’re almost certainly headed for a Mary Ann Baldwin vs. Charles Francis match-up.
But please, please read all the way to the end, because the stinger in the last paragraph is just perfect, @pierretong @ADUsSomeday @dtraleigh

As someone who was pretty out of the loop locally last election - what exactly does Charles Francis do in Raleigh? (what does he bring to the table?) From someone who knows nothing about him.
