Raleigh Elections and Council Overall

Can’t be worse than the one that resigned

In terms of City Development, yes she can be “worse”.

Clearly there appear to be other issues with Saige…

City Council is now accepting applications from candidates interested in filling the vacant District D seat. (Candidates may download and complete a PDF version of the application in lieu of the online application form.)

Qualifications required:

  • Applicants must be at least 21 years old,
  • Must be registered to vote in Wake County, and
  • Have been a District D resident for at least 30 days.

Applications must be received by 4 p.m. on Friday, July 10.

City Council plans to hold a virtual forum to question five candidates at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 12.

Livable Cities = Stef Mendel(?)

Yup, and others.

I think this list of applicants is being updated end of day on the City Council site through Friday.
Final 5 applicants picked for Sunday public forum prior to Council vote next week…

Larry Miller is Glenwood South 100%. :+1:

Seth Hollar has been talking about YIMBY concepts for awhile and has helped think innovative ideas on transit. :+1:

I definitely know Larry, good guy!
I’m aware of Seth via the YIMBY mailing list, but don’t know him.

He was involved in the founding of EcoPRT

What happened to ecoPRT, anyways?

For all the hype they tried to build up when they first came around in 2015-2018, it doesn’t seem like he’s made much progress (or have even bothered to update his websites etc). Not exactly a great first impression about what he’s capable of and how well he can be on top of things.

Didn’t they declare bankruptcy and we’re just sold? Or, am I thinking of another company?

I think that was the ELF bike/car company out of Durham.

ecoPRT was more of a research group out of NCSU working on a proof of concept.

That’s right. Thanks.

Interesting observation, the last PDF of applicants doesn’t reflect Kay Crowder. Wonder if she’s waiting until the last minute (today at 4p) to apply, or maybe she got wind that she didn’t have a chance? Just thinking out loud.

I mean, the only votes that matter belong to the people who have seats on the Raleigh City Council, and there’s a 0.0% chance they would ever let Kay back onto the council so

Huh. Kay applied. Didn’t expect that. Neither of the other candidates who ran in 2019 applied, though.

Stormie Forte also applied today. “Liveable Raleigh” (i.e. Cranky Stef Mendell) is convinced that she’s going to be chosen, based on an extremely bizarrely written blog post. That is actually distinctly possible, so I guess we’ll see.

My friend Jenn Truman also applied today, and I think she would be fantastic, FWIW.
