See, they said “and other major cities.” So we must be a major city now! Lol
But cities are souring on right-on-red.
Atlanta, Denver, Indianapolis, Washington, DC, Raleigh, North Carolina, and other major cities have recently proposed or passed laws banning it in parts of their busy downtowns or citywide.
As someone who walks downtown roads, I can get behind this. If drivers didn’t just sail through right-on-red like there wasn’t a light at all, maybe it wouldn’t be problem.
As for major city status, the article only used North Carolina. We must the most important and most major!
Weird to try to use Cook Out of all things to argue for inflation. Cost of living has steadily increased every year I’ve lived here and Cook Out was one of the big holdouts that resisted price increases during much of it. In fact I feel like it’s a better bargain than it used to be compared to the wage I take home now.
RoR in downtowns is tricky. Drivers always looking left for cars and hardly ever at pedestrians crossing on their right side. I’ve learned to walk behind the cars trying to do it to stay safe. I still see a few. Seen too many near misses and some bumps because drivers weren’t expecting someone to actually use the crosswalk. Just doesn’t seem like the best idea in busy areas that are only going to get busier.
When I’m walking downtown and regularly crossing streets, I do my “neck exercises”, meaning I crank my neck all the way to left then to the right to make sure that I am not going to get run over.
Just a quick, friendly reminder to check and understand your news sources. The Daily Caller is a far-right (faux) news organization, founded by Tucker Carlson, that fabricates stories and has ties to white supremacy. One of its core functions is to sow disinformation and division, thus the rather absurd and extreme position of this article. I wouldn’t take anything they publish remotely seriously.
One “eyeroll” emoji reaction from [no surprise] - can we get rid of that reaction? Literally the only thing that @HardeesBiscuit contributes on this forum is eyeroll reacts.
New developments are going up on the daily to accommodate all the relocated liberals working through the region’s tech, medicine, research and academic sectors. And none of these homes are selling at their correct value.
I knew this article was a stinker when I read this. They don’t put forth any actual data when they throw out this weird assumption and make the piece strangely partisan.
all the “news” sites have a political agenda. Left or right, they all tell you what to think by opinion pieces masquerading as news. It’s disgusting. Just serve straight up news and I’ll make up my own mind. Gross! to Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC. I hate them all. Don’t have better sites but I am skeptical whenever I read from popular news sources.
I do find it helpful to read ones I completely disagree with their perspective though.
The problem is, there’s no such thing as news without a perspective. Ask two witnesses about the same event, and you’ll get two stories. Ask two students about what was notable about the same class or book, and you’ll hear two different things. Even AI can’t keep its stories straight!
not unique to raleigh…my folks lived in north ridge villas and were nearly mowed down by a right on redder crossing falls of the neuse…they then moved to reno nv actually were knocked over by a doctor going to work, in a crosswalk…they are visually imparired and cant do eye contact. in some places right on red might need to be stopped.
Boston article talking about how Raleigh (-Durham) is gonna steal all the biotech from Boston. Or maybe a little less dramatic. But as someone who moved from up there to here, working in that industry, it’s an interesting read.
