Raleigh In The News around the country/world

I am I’m going to college in January I’ll miss this place but will remain active. In fact on a personal note I had a passing of an uncle recently I’m gonna be down in Florida for possibly 2 months or more (details aren’t finalized so maybe not but it’s a heads up). To help my aunt grieve the loss I will try to still stay connected as I can my community college classes are gonna be online. I honestly don’t know when I’ll return to Raleigh but I will be closely watching MLB an it expansion which with the Oakland A’s situation and now Kansas City Royals . I may not happen for a few more years. So maybe I’m getting to hyped up now but I wanted to let you know I may be gone from this area for a long time.

I highly doubt that retirees are descending on Raleigh and buying houses in downtown adjacent neighborhoods so that they can be NIMBYs.
That’s a bit of an irrational fear.

Also, that article thinks that Myrtle Beach is 3 hour from Wilmington. LOL.

Sorry for your loss.

(But also if you fear the olds, I got a story or five to tell you about Florida).

They moved to Florida from New York City wants to retire somewhere else fof years originally Arizona was on the consideration list but they settled in Orlando or Kissimmee really.

Not sure how they chose that picture as the main one, but nonetheless Raleigh got mentioned in a WSJ article as the top city for most promising locations to find work for new college grads.

Yet none of the testimonials/stories in the article are about Raleigh. They are about Austin and Charlotte. We can’t even win when we win.

To be fair the last Charlotte quote called it a “mediocre city” so maybe it’s for the best!

Surprised they needed the “North Carolina” for Charlotte, let alone Raleigh :joy:

I haven’t heard of Raleigh. I know about Charlotte though. Which Carolina is that in? East Carolina?

That would be Central Carolina.

I know. This seems to be a thing. SMH.

What does the “projected increase in new units” column represent? Is that the difference when compared to the previous four years (2016-2020)?

Driivz opens US headquarters in Raleigh, expands EV software reach By Investing.com

Anyone hear of chatter on where this company will be located in Raleigh?

The article says Driivz is owned by Vontier Corp, which has an office out by PNC arena. It will probably go there unless they do lots of hiring, which the article / press release doesn’t mention.

This is even more interesting in light of Ionna selecting Durham for their global HQ back in June. Maybe we are seeing the beginnings of some significant EV industry presence in the triangle? Or maybe it’s already here? I’d assumed those companies would just HQ themselves wherever the legacy car manufacturers are

Interesting announcement given that they kept saying Durham County and not just Durham or RTP. Do we suppose that means that they don’t know exactly where it’s going to go?

This is very interesting how Wake and the surrounding counties attract incomes and yet Mecklenburg is losing as is Durham County most likely to other nearby counties. Union County is gaining a lot of wealth coming out of Mecklenburg it seems.
