Seriously. Super low cost of living and golf at Pinehurst / Southern Pines as the draw I’m guessing?
Hey I didn’t make the list, I just reported it. LOL.
You’re making up fake news with your pro-Fayetteville bias!
There is no way I am a fan of Fayetteville (no offense to those who love Fayetteville). I am in Raleigh. I rest my case. And 119 is hardly something to write home about IMHO.
Sorry, but not exactly what I’d like my city to be known for: “Good place to stop doing things and eventually pass away” NO THANKS. (edit: this is a joke, no offense at all to our retired friends in here)
Downtown Fayetteville is kinda sharp if you haven’t been by recently. And, you don’t have to drive on College Rd to get anywhere.
I am in Fayetteville for work several times a year, it has changed a lot over the last decade. BUT outside of downtown proper, I’ll take a pass on Fayettenam.
The controversial Helene relief bill going through the GA has some extra goodies for cities! It apparently prevents cities from down-zoning, which I think some here might not have a problem with on it’s face. But talk from from city officials around the state makes it sound like current TOD approaches to densifying would be hamstrung by a measure like this by making it illegal to “down-zone” current land uses out of spec.
How does this help Helene relief?
It does not. It’s standard Smithfield ‘pork-filled’ politics. iykyk
Much worse than standard pork! They’re holding hurricane relief hostage to everything else in the bill, including their sore loser changes to strip the Democratic winners of any power they still had (which voters overwhelmingly said they should have). And then they’ll complain that objectors are holding up relief. Phil Berger and the NCGOP remain scum
The fact that Democrats got more votes statewide for legislative elections than Republicans but the Republicans have a veto-proof majority (or just shy of it) in both houses while also losing governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, etc. shows that this state wants different leadership. But it’s so gerrymandered that it’s never gonna happen. Completely undemocratic. None of this is good for cities in NC either.
Blame it on Obama. The Dems had a trifecta going for 12 years in NC before the first midterm election that devastated the Dems in states all over the country. The Republicans were fighting to overcome the gerrymandering back then. As a famous popular President once said “elections have consequences”.
Blame it on a motivated backlash to having a non-white president paired with an otherwise disengaged mid-term electorate that was modestly disappointed that Obama didn’t completely undo the damaged economy that was a flaming pile of shit served to him on a platter when he took office in Jan. 2009.
Hmm yeah… Republican gerrymandering is Obama’s fault. Just like Katrina and 9/11 and Covid as well I assume…
Thanks Obama!
Both parties gerrymander about equally. It was only Obama’s fault in that he was fairly unpopular that first midterm election and the Dems lost big. It was just prior to redisdistricting so Republicans were in power for the first time in just about forever. It was their turn to gerrymander.
Veith v Jubilerer 2004, passed by the Republican majority Supreme Court, makes partisan gerrymandering the law of the land.
Biden tried to pass electoral reforms that would’ve mutually disarmed partisan gerrymandering, but for some reason every Republican (including Manchin) was opposed to it. They have a permanent advantage in the House and in more state legislatures as long as partisan gerrymandering exists, because they control a lot more states with it.
No, they are despots that stole power and treat half the people in this state like unwelcome guests in their own home. Democracy is part of our culture in America, and they are destroying the American way of life.
Gerrymandering lets politicians choose their voters, not the voters choosing politicians.
“We’re being craven sociopaths because Obama made us angry” is not the amazing retort you think it is.
As ever, the party of personal responsibility believes that only democrats have agency.
Save it for the Thanksgiving table. Let’s keep this on topic.
