Raleigh took out Nashville in the NHL playoffs, and now they beat Vandy in the CWS.
The Pack is playing some insane baseball this post season; after disposing of #1, they’ve now beaten #7 and #4.

No fluke as well. Preseason top 15. Just had that odd stretch early on with the pitching. 33-9 in the last 42 games. Veteran squad. A delight to watch.

LA is basically the only city that truly makes money on the Olympics. Most of the facilities are already built and in use.

Well now that the Cubs are over the hump, State takes center stage for most cursed in all of sports. You can’t make this up sometimes.

Self inflicted wound. They only had 13 players available for the game due to Covid protocols. One presumes there has been an outbreak on the team. Are these players not vaxxed?

Would have to speculate that they’re not. Even though I think most colleges require to be before the fall. Really sucks if they were not. They knew the risks and what was at stake here.
I say they’re probably not since exposure and quarantine rules (at least in other sports leagues) do not apply if you’re vaccinated when someone else tests positive.

If they were not vaccinated that was a poor decision on their part. If they were vaccinated and still couldn’t play for some reason, that is a tough break. Will be curious to find out exactly what happened.

The story at the moment is that the NCAA only routinely tests non-vaxxed players (but reserves the right to test anyone). Two of them tested positive. The NCAA then tested the whole team, and four people who played yesterday (and were vaccinated) tested positive. The NCAA then just pulled the plug.

Details are still scarce and questions and timelines will have to be answered.

There are so many variables here to consider, and certainly one of them is vaccination of the entire team. Had all players, coaches, trainers, etc. associated been fully vaccinated (meaning past the waiting period after the final shot), then certainly the chances of breakthrough cases among the vaccinated would be lessened. Also, if everyone had been vaccinated they wouldn’t have been randomly tested at all. That’s on them and the university for making the decisions that they did. We can argue all day long about whether or not universities should require vaccination of their participating athletes, but if this testing of the unvaccinated was a known entity, then that’s on them. They signed up for that possible consequence with their decision making.
Some other contributing factors would be:

  1. Team travel and exposure to others at the 3 different sites. In terms of vaccination rates and Lincoln Parrish, LA is downright pathetic. Washington County, AR isn’t much better.
  2. Team protocol in terms of staying safe and within their bubble. Did this even happen? I would suspect that there wasn’t much isolation going on now that “the virus is over”.
  3. Picking up on the vaccination rate of the team, just how high/low was it? For those vaccinated, were they past their waiting period?

Maybe this is a wake-up call for the team? Are we going to go through the same shit with football this season? If so, I want my money back if games are cancelled due to this foolery.

No schools within the UNC system are currently requiring anyone to be vaccinated to come back on campus in the fall.

UNC & NC State can’t require the vaccine because the right-wing nut jobs in the NC Legislature would pass some stupid law saying public universities can’t “require” it………yet private universities(Duke) around the country ARE requiring it because their GOP legislators can’t do jack sh## with a private institution.

Cause according to them the china-virus is completely made up…….

NC State baseball could have avoided all if this with a simple shot…

Yeah I mean I think we can all agree there are some politics involved here, but I would add that it isn’t just UNC and NCSU that can’t require vaccinations to return to campus. It’s ALL UNC system schools, so UNCW, App State, ECU, UNCC… the list goes on.

I was mostly addressing @atl_transplant’s comment about most colleges requiring vaccinations before the fall. While that might be true in some areas of the country, that is simply not the case in North Carolina.
