Coach didn’t seem to put to much emphasis getting his players vaccinated. Said something to the effect of “That’s not my job.” His job is to get his team ready to play, and if half of them can’t play because they are sick or tested positive, when there is a vaccine available, that’s on him.

Of the 6 players who tested positive 4 had been vaccinated. Pokes holes through that logic.

Also how many fans were tested before they decided to sit elbow to elbow with complete strangers. I can’t believe the NCAA would allow that to happen. Could you imagine if someone showed up with Coronavirus?
One of those games could have turned into one of those super-spreader events.

Are we still going on about super spreader events? Also, people shouldn’t be forced to get vaccinated.

I didn’t grow up around here and don’t have a dog in this fight. I generally like NC State and probably pull for them as far as any local teams go. But if the team were fully vaccinated, they most likely would be in the CWS championship series right now. They knew the Covid protocols for testing, and could have avoided testing with a fully vaxxed team.

I doubt any fans were tested. That is a separate concern.

Then that becomes a vaccine issue and not a Covid issue. If the goal was to avoid spreading Coronavirus, then only testing people or teams who haven’t been vaccinated when 4 of 6 positive tests were people who have been vaccinated, then that is extremely short sighted. Because you can still get Coronavirus even after you have been vaccinated.

And yes you’re correct, ZERO fans were tested. 3,000 people could have shown up with Coronavirus and sat anywhere in the stadium if they wanted. Here is an interesting piece of the blame game NCAA is now using :

I feel bad for the kids who had the breakthrough cases, and the rest of the team that had gotten their vaccinations.

As for those who weren’t vaccinated and got COVID…don’t mean to be cruel, but how does the saying go? Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Don’t get me started on the NCAA hypocrisy. They allowed 22,000 fans into a stadium with zero testing but made State players test…WTF!!!.

Again though, I go back to my previous point. If everyone on the team had taken the shot, ‘random testing’ would not have been an issue. It wouldn’t matter had 4 players who had received the vaccine tested positive. The NCAA would not have required the testing for the team period had they all gotten the shot. This is solely on Avent. My understanding from some Pack insiders is he is a bit heavy on the right-leaning too.

Which makes that more about the vaccine than the Coronavirus. Especially considering the 4 vaccinated players were showing “Covid like symptoms” meaning they could spread it to someone else. That immediately moved the goal post away from stoping the spread of Covid if that was apparently their goal.

It’s hilarious to read people throwing more shade towards College athletes not getting the vaccine, for a virus they are mostly unaffected by, and not the NCAA for this poor decision.
I think the past year should prove the fact that if someone in power creates a rule or mandate it doesn’t necessarily make it the correct decision or even one to follow.

But, you have to follow it if you want to play. If they were vaccinated, they wouldn’t have been tested. Period. They knew the rules and they decided to gamble. Bit them in the rear. It doesn’t matter how hypocritical the rules are. Those are the rules and you have to play by them.

The NCAA looks after #1. It wasn’t looking to stop Covid spreading per se, they were looking to avoid holding the bag if something did happen. That something was a Covid positive test results breakout on a team. State just happened to be that team. State could have changed this by getting everyone vaccinated. Particularly prudent as this was the second outbreak for the Pack this season leading to cancelled games.

That said, this isn’t really on Avent. He coaches. The AD is responsible for this type of stuff. I think Yow would have personally injected everyone after the March outbreak. Boo seems an empty suit.

How many were fully vaccinated including the waiting period afterward? I don’t know that I’ve seen that sort of information yet.

In the end, if the program didn’t have unvaccinated players, they wouldn’t have been subjected to random testing in the first place and none of the (I presume) asymptomatic breakthrough cases would’ve been detected. The fact that Avent said that he didn’t want to talk about Covid politics leads me to believe that the entire team organization didn’t take either the virus or its implications seriously enough.

Don’t get me wrong, I am a giant State fan and have poured tens of thousands of dollars into the Wolfpack club, tickets, etc. over the decades. I would love nothing more to watch them bring home the championship, but this is on the program and the players. They did this to themselves by playing Russian Roulette with the virus. They are not victims.

I’m not going to say much on this topic but a few of you need to read the pros and cons of the vaccine and the pros and cons of not having the vaccine. I’m sure you can find it on many credible websites (not Fox News) but the CDC, NIH, Mayo Clinic, etc.

One, the vaccine does not make it impossible to get the virus, no credible doctor has ever said this, there is a 85-90% chance that you won’t contract the new variant. However, depending on the company you choose the percentage my vary. Two, if you’re vaccinated you don’t have to go into quarantine if you contract the virus because you are less likely to spread the virus. Three, there are no reports of anyone dying or losing limbs, organs, etc. due to the vaccine; the virus has killed 3.6 million in counting and survivors will have lifelong health issues.

The great misperception is that vaccines keep you from getting a disease. They do not. They bolster your body’s immune system so that don’t get a severe case of a disease and wind up in the hospital or dieing. Right now in the U.S., over 99 percent of the Covid hospitalizations are unvaccinated people. And, they are younger than during the pre-vaccine days.

Also the government is already tracking us by tracking our technology so there is no use in creating a miniature non-existent AI software into your arm. But, everyone has the right to their own opinions.

Did anyone watch or go to the Courage’s send off game, I think it was on Fox 50?

Women on the pill sometimes get pregnant. Are we going to then suggest that the pill is neither effective nor advised for use? For me, it’s sort of the same issue with any vaccine. No vaccine is 100% effective. @Alan has said it best already.

Get the shot. Play ball!!

Don’t get the shot……get DQ’d

I can appreciate the athlete’s perspective on this one. The vaccines weren’t going to be available for their age group until early April. So, the first shot would not have gone into arms until that time, and then there would be the 2-3 week waiting period for the second dose. This would have happened by the end of April. Then, there’s still the two week window before full, effective immunity (which is still not a full guarantee against getting infected).

I can imagine that there were players (or even coaching staff) who saw or heard about somebody being knocked down for a few days or more because of either the first or second shot. And, that there was the perception that having had the dose was going to impact possible athletic performance from being at it’s peak, then I would project that there would be some pause about getting the jabs.

Then, factor in that vaccinated team members did test positive, then it’s game over. It will be interesting to see if things ramp up with the testing as the CWS continues to play out and other teams possibly get whacked.

They would have never been tested in the 1st place had the entire team been vaccinated. This argument about “not wanting side effects” is a red herring to deflect from the fact that the coach & probably some players parents are not politically aligned with science & facts.

I got the vaccine & I was down for a few hours with the 2nd dose. I’m not 22.

You are trying to tell me that’s the real reason these kids did not get vaccinated in the 1st place?

BULLSH##!!! Avent owns this cluster….nobody else.

Not everything is political. I know for you it is. You are obsessed with left right politics. Your prerogative. I certainly wouldn’t recommend that a healthy 20 year old who recently had Covid, get the EUA injection. They have antibodies and should wait a period of time. The issue in Omaha is not about vaccinations, it is about how the NCAA botched the whole process. If you are legitimately positive with legitimate tests you don’t play. If you are legitimately negative, you play. State had 21 players test negative and also 4 vaxxed who tested positive. Only 2 were unvaxxed and positive.

Since the NCAA didn’t give a hoot about public safety, hence 22k in attendance with zero precautions, they should have let State play with the 21 negative players at a minimum.

Also, Avent was vaccinated in March. The athletic department encouraged the shot, but it was mid season and some didn’t want it, for whatever reason. Side effects are real for many people. Only one out of the 8 teams in Omaha was fully vaxxed.

Your tripe about anti-science and politics is garbage. At least do a little research before spouting off. You have no idea what you are talking about.

The fact that it’s Delta is going to put more pressure on the NCAA running into the CWS final. Oof. What a mess.
